Can DVC room keys be used for member discounts & perks or can member discounts & perks only be received only with a member card?

It depends upon the perk and the CM at the time. AP discount requires a real membership card.

Some of the discounts at restaurants and sometimes the valet parking will be allowed with just the room key, but sometimes not too. It really is up to the CM taking payment if they ask for the membership card or not. More and more, we have been asked for the membership card in addition to the room key.

In 4 trips I believe we were only asked a handful of time for our DVC card. We always made sure that our Keys to the Kingdom card said DVC member on it.

The guidelines for member perks normally state that the member must show their DVC card. Don't be disappointed if you don't carry it and the CM asks for it!

We rented before we purchased just this May 2006. We never asked for DVC discounts (although I was aware of the discounts) and we never received a DVC discount.

For example - we bought 10 day park hoppers, and used our room key to put the charge on our room/credit card... room keys do say DVC on them. We were not given the DVC discount.. and frankly, I didn't expect it either...(not after reading the boards!!)

There is no DVC Discount on park tickets, except for annual passes.

And those DO require a blue member card, plus ID.

Given the current changes and desire on Disney's part to enforce policy, I wouldn't be surprised if CMs started asking for the blue card and it became more of the exception that the room key alone will work. As I recall, Disney does say they extend some member perks to guests, none to renters (and can't tell they difference), but they don't itemize out which. It may be that MS starts saying "if your brother and SIL are using your points and want the discount, have them take YOUR member card."

But they aren't getting mine! NOBODY gets to use my member card but ME! :teeth:

As I recall from 6-2005, they also asked for our drivers licenses when I bought our AP's. They wanted to make sure that we lived in the same house.

When you purchase an AP an ID is required, they record the member's name and address, into the system.

Closed per request of the OP. Thanks everyone!
