Hello All - I have been savings my pennies for a bit to purchase DVC and finally have enough money. My MIL knew about it and decided to deed her Interval International (II) ownership to us at no cost. Very nice of her. My questions is does anyone here have experience with them and Disney properties? I see them listed in the book - but I am also not niave enough to believe getting a ressie at Disney through II will be easy. Any insite you can provide will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You are correct. I am in the timeshare biz. and trading through II into Disney is very difficult to say the least. Your home resort must have very high trading value in order to see that happen. You also must be very flexible with your travel dates and with your unit size. There are way more 1 bed. units out there than 2. If you want a sure thing as far as staying in a DVC unit, buy one at DW. Before you take the deed over, check out the property and what its maint. fees are and any special assessments. Sometimes once you own a timeshare it is extremely hard to get rid of it. My sis gets clobbered with almost a thousand a year in fees and can't unload it. Can't even sign it back over to the resort.:rotfl2:

depends upon you - if you can go May and Sept - and a studio or 1-bedroom (but definitley more studios) would work - then great go with your MIL's timeshare (but only if the fees are under $600).

they do have 2-bedrooms but hard to find.

go sign up your MIL's timeshares now - and see for yourself if you can trade into Disney.

Other times - Oct, Jan, Feb, Nov, Dec (holidays are rare - don't remember ever seeing one). You will also have to look every week (some people look daily until they find what they want or can live with)

Depending on where your relative's timeshare is and what it is, having someone deed their timeshare over to you could either be a blessing or a curse. If it has upcoming special assessments (major money due), it might not be a nice thing to be responsible for. Interval International is only an exchange company. You can't deed over Interval International to somebody. You must mean she deeded over her timeshare to you.

To trade into WDW DVC through Interval, you can't use another Orlando timeshare to trade into DVC (there's a regional block). You must also have enough resort quality to be able to trade into DVC through Interval. IF a trade happens into a WDW DVC resort, you would have your timeshare resort maintenance fees, your $139.00 trade fee to Interval, and a $95.00 resort services fee to Disney for a WDW DVC trade. You would also have your annual membership fees to Interval to pay - around $84.00 to over $100 for a Gold Membership.

So by the time you count all the fees, say $600 maintenance fees on your home resort timeshare, $84.00 Interval Membership, $139.00 trade fee, and $95.00 fee to Disney, you're up there around $900.00. If you're staying at OKW in January in a Studio, it would be cheaper to rent 80 points for $10.00 a point for a full week through the Dis boards.

IF you can do a 1 BR, DVC is not nearly as hard to exchange into as many think. I've done it many times and seen literally thousands of units online over the last few years.. If you plan at least 11 months ahead you can get a 1 BR most of the year at one resort or another. The times when you are unlikely to get anything are Easter, Mid Summer and Xmas but even then it's not totally impossible. Not many 2 BR and ALMOST no 3 BR make it to II. Your best option is to set up an ongoing search for what you want. I would not routinely take a studio as an exchange other than for a bonus week. One approach I sometimes use as a member is to reserve and search at the same time then cancel the direct DVC reservation if the II search comes through.
