I took the tour 12/9, got the card 12/24 (early Christmas gift!)
I didn't receive the postcard until after I called and did the tour, but it wasn't a problem. I got a little nervous since after I mentioned the gift card in the beginning and the guy took the first digits of my Visa, the GC was never mentioned again... But seeing as I got it, obviously it wasn't a problem!
I did find my guide a little pushy and rude though. I told her right up front that I'm a college student living off loans, so although I'd love to join, there was no way that would happen anytime in the near future. She replied, "Well, you must be making some good money somehow, they don't give out those Visas to just anyone!" I couldn't believe she said that! I have a card, but it's linked to my mother's account (who didn't want to do the tour). I told her that but she just kept telling me it was such a good investment maybe I can take out some extra money from my student loans and put it towards a DVC down payment, especially since they have some really good financing offers.
I'm sorry, but no.
Anyway, after the first few uncomfortable minutes, it ended up being a short (10 minutes) phone call. She emailed me the brochures and ten days later did a follow up call (went to voicemail -- again pushing that I should do it now but whatever) and then my card came! Perfect for my trip next week!!
I did the call today and must have had the same cm. She was definitely pushing for a sale. I told her that due to the current economic situation, my husband working construction, and his pay check amount being very unreliable, we were just not able to take on any additional debt at this time. She still kept pushing, saying we could take the money we put aside for any vacation this year towards a 100 pt buy in. I told her I didn't think my kids would appreciate that, most of them are to young to understand, and unless Dh's paycheck suddenly becomes more reliable there isn't going to be a vacation this year. I can't remember her name, but she said DVC has been around for 20 years and she's been selling for 16 years, and that should tell me something. What I'm not sure lol. Anyway, after she did her best and made sure I'd received an email she sent, I asked about the gift card. She said that had nothing to do with her, it had to do with the guy who originally answered the phone and transferred the call to me. If I'd of known that I'd of cut her off way sooner then I did! Oh well, hopefully the card will be here in a few weeks.
