We bought in June. There is a $500 stateroom credit, which you can use instead to reduce the total cost. In addition, starting at 150 points, you get $750 off the total cost. The amount off increases as you purchase additional points.
Be sure to investigate what the current offers for purchasing DVC on land are before going on the cruise. www.dvcnews.com is a good resource as to what the current offers are. If you know those incentives, you will be able to compare if the cruise offers really are a good deal or not. As far as I have read over the last couple of years, the cruise incentives are no longer as attractive as they used to be. However, obviously DVC likes you to sign on while on the cruise as you are a captive audience while on the ship.
I have found no deal onboard that's better than the onland deals. $500 OBC is just $500 off when not on a ship. The "buy x get a % off" deals are exactly the same when off he cruise.
It used to be better but it's not anymore.
Dvcnews.com has a section dedicated to current offers and incentives. It's worth a peek.
