Got a Fed Ex letter from DVC today. At the top it says:

"Introducing a special offer exclusively for DVC members in California. The current price per Point is $95. Add on by Oct 2 and pay only $89 per point."

Then below it lists the offers I've heard others talk about. Either 2 APs or an II week. 130 points minimum.

Then the Phase II SSR thing where you can get $10 off per Point for purchasing at least 100 points.

So it sounds like if you live in CA you can buy Phase II of SSR for only $79 a point.

Are people in other states receiving this same offer also?

I got one this past week about the deals with adding on points with SSR with the annual pass specials or II trade, didnt pay much attention to it, since Im not adding anymore on.

My DVC sales rep called and said they were sending it because the states, like CA, that were not able to buy into SSR initially because of timeshare law restrictions in their states have now cleared the legal hurdles to allow purchasing. He wanted us to notice particularly that they are offering the points at the original sale price $89 (for a limited time), versus the current price of $95, since we were not able to purchase previously.
Hope this clears some things up,
Jennifer

I got the Fedex package today too. EXTREMELY tempting. However, it's time for a new vehicle and that's got to take precedence. ::sigh::

Thanks for the scoop. I got the letter too and had to reread it several times and I keep reading $79.00 per point plus 2 annual passes. I could not figure out why *we* would get such a great deal, now it makes sense.

Now, to add on or not... :scratchin very tempting.

I'm confused. I added on 130 points on 9/2/04 while at WDW. I took the $10 off per point, and the 1 week vacation in a two bedroom...... Should I call tomorrow and cancel my contract (I'm still in the 15 day window), and re-buy at $79/point?? Help!!!

If you can pull it off, why not? Call your guide first thing and see what they can do.

Interesting....I wonder if DVC can sell in Hawaii now also?

Keep in mind that the SSR Phase II defers loan payments until May or June 2005! MF are also pushed back until some date in 2005. All you need now is your downpayment ... which is reduced by the savings offer ($10/pt). ;-)

You're a bad influence!!! Now, I thought that the downpayment would be based on the $89 per point figure and not the $79 per point figure.

Yes, I know (bad influence) ... sorry!

Yes, the downpayment is calculated against the $89 figure ... however ... if buying at least 100 pts ... the savings offer is applied directly to the downpayment leaving you to settle the balance.

Examples:

If buying only 50 pts at $89 ... a 20% total down is $890. All of this comes from you at signing.

If buying 100 pts at $89 ... the 20% total down is $1780 ... but DVR pays $1000 using the $10/credit savings and you contribute only $780.

So ... an upgrade of 100 pts is less money out of pocket (for 2004) than 50 pts! (Where is the emoticon for [Big evil grin!]??)

Just a note, we have been taking advantage of this incentive and: the discounts are either/or: Either you can take the $6 per point discount on phase I and get this year's points, or you can get $10 per point discount on phase II and not get any current points (of course no payments - other than downpayment - until it opens either). They are not gonna be selling anyone points at $79 each - it's either $89 with current points or $85 without.

The other incentives come whichever phase you choose. For 130 points you get the II exchange or APs, and 100 gets you the "free Disney vacation" if you give up the current points, whatever that means (is that a long weekend at POR, perhaps?).

And a reminder, you don't get the discounts unless you buy 100 points or more.

We could not resist the 130 SSR points plus the APs, getting all current points and pulled the trigger. SSR had already registered to sell in Mass some time back, so we only got $5 discount per point. So Californians, take the extra $1 per point discount, if SSR is gonna suit your needs - $6 off with current points is a much better deal than $10 off without them.

Sitting here looking at the letter and reading this thread has pushed me over the edge....I just left a message for Byron, Our Guide.

Buying our 170 pts at BCV a few years ago was definitely the best purchase we've done. We bought it sight unseen. After staying there this summer, our only regret was not buying more points!

We hadn't really given much thought about adding on right now. It was one of our long term ideas to get a second contract so each of our daughters could have it when we're old and gray.

But the idea of the pre-sale is just too tempting! $89 a point...2 APs for our Grand Floridian trip this December....The $10 credit per point to add to our deposit...and not having to make any payments except our down until spring 2005 (hopefully right around tax refund time!) It's just too tempting. Plus, we already have points with our other contract, so it's not like we need any points now.

I can't wait to hear back from Byron!

Also consider that for add-on's you'll only pay MF for prorated 2004 (based on calendar month). Does this CA deal apply to just existing members or for new members as well?

This brings up all kinds of intersting questions, like does it mean that DVC is looking into building in CA, like around Disneyland? And when will I be able to buy from Washington?! DVC is DL would be cool!

The offer is only for Phase 2. It appears that only Phase 2 has been registered for sale in California. Not clear if it is all building or just a subset.

So, I want to see if I read this right. I get the $89 price, and then free AP's, plus a $10 per vacation point credit. Right? Seems to good to be true. Let me know if this is right? We just purchased at OKW, but after seeing this, I think it may be an addition that we need.:wave2:

After speaking with our guide, I gave our deposit. 130 points at SSR at $89 a point. Because I'm purchasing 130 or more points, I had my choice of either: 2 complimentary WDW APs or "a complimentary Interval International Vacation". (I chose the APs because we're going in December and it would cut down on my "Non-DVC" trip.)

Then, because I chose to buy my points for the Phase II which won't open until spring of 2005....I had my choice of either a $10 a point credit or "a complimentary vacation at a Disney Vacation Club Resort, a WDW Resort that is part of the Disney collection, or an Interval International exchange." I chose the $10 credit per point to help cut back my cost. Mind you this incentive is with a minimum of 100 points. According to my guide, if you chose the vacation; it did have an expiration date of 2006.

The only other part was that I don't have to pay anything but the down payment right now. My payments won't start until May 2005 and my dues won't start until August 2005 because I have an August Use Year.
