DVC Occupancy Thread Part 2

You can book a reservation for 5 in a BWV Garden/Pool view studio. I've done so several times, and I have a reservation for 5 in a BWV Garden/Pool viwe studio in December. These units have a small sleeping bench (when I say small, it's small), but at least you can make the reservation.
Not all of those units are dedicated studios and thus the daybed. This seems to be a glitch in the system rather than an allowed booking situation.

I think your right Dean, I became a member at BW in '99, at the time we had three kids all under 3 and we were never allowed to book a studio. In '09 it was DH, me & 5 children ages 11, 10, 2 and 3 months at OKW and we had to book a 2 bedroom even though we didn't need all that room- the extra bathroom was handy :)

Before they removed those day bed rooms from being a booking category (later than 1999), they would routinely allow 5 in those. Actually when you joined, they would routinely allow 5 in a studio and 6 in a 1 BR with 10 in a 2 BR. Around 2000 or 2001 they tightened up the occupancy issues, this is when the 5 in a 1 BR or 9 in a 2 BR became semi official. Before that it was hit or miss. My view is they should strictly enforce the POS occupancy to the point of fines/refusal if violated.

I agree with you, Dean. Most timeshares enforce their occupancy much more strictly than DVC, and I think the laxity in those"rules" is one of the reasons there is so much wear and tear on DVC units. I feel the studios (especially the ones that have 1 bed and on sleep sofa) are really only meant for 2-3 people. Stuffing 4-5 in them is crazy. A one bedroom really does NOT sleep 5 either except for OKW, BLT, and AKV where there are pull out beds for 5.

I am sure this has been answered a million times so forgive me. I tried searching for the occupancy thread but couldn't find it. :-(

Anyway, is VGF the only WDW DVC resort that allows 5 in a studio? That's what it looks like based on the points charts but I swear I saw reference one time to sleeper chairs in some of the other studios. Does anyone know?

Sleeper chairs are in one bedroom units. The VGF studios are the only ones that have beds for five people.

There are "deluxe" studios at BWV that have a daybed which can sleep a child or small adult. My niece is a touch under 5 feet and has slept on them.

Thanks for the tip. The 5th person would be my 3 year old so that would work out well.

Since this is not a bookable category- simply a different place for someone to sleep you are still not allowed to book more than 4 in any studio except VGF. All other studios allow 4 plus 1 under 3 and they do not allow exceptions in a studio which are really more built for 2 people to enjoy comfortable or 2 adults with a small child or 2. I suspect this thread will be closed soon as we have an occupancy thread for all questions and discussions about this.

All studios are deluxe studios. However, many years ago, the BWV studio with the deacon's bench was called a Studio Plus and was a bookable category. But they are no longer bookable categories and you either get one or you don't. They are dedicated studios and the deacon's bench is located where the connecting door would have been. The mattress is about crib sized. Even then you couldn't book five in the studio. It was just a convenience for a smaller child. The one time we stayed at the BWV, we had the Studio Plus and our son didn't like the deacon's bench at all. He was about six at the time.

Do the OKW 1 BR have the sleeper chair now for the 5th person?

Yes, OKW has the sleeper chairs in units larger than a studio. No sleeper chairs in a studio.

And the are quite comfortable, IMO.

I made a ressie at my 7 months for a 2 bedroom. At the time I though a 2 bedroom only fit 8 people. I was just waitlisting the same hotel but standard instead of garden/pool view and it says up to 9 but 9th have to bring linens... Did they change that?? I thought BWV 2br only held 8 plus infant officially.

DVC has decided to unofficially allow an extra person in the one or two bedroom villa. But they do not provide the linens or sleeping space required for the extra person. So if you show up with nine in a two bedroom at BWV, BCV, SSR, or VWL, you'll be bringing your own air bed or cot, plus the bedding needed and any towels needed for that extra person. They usually allow an extra child under the age of three. But if you put an extra adult in the villa that officially only sleeps four or eight, you cannot have an extra person plus the child under the age of three (meaning ten in a two bedroom or six in a one bedroom).

I've always gotten a 1 bedroom wherever we stay but because we added a new member to the family recently, I have a question about how many people Disney allows to fit in a room.

I've got 5 kids (yes, I know I'm nuts). We usually have no problem staying in a 1 bedroom at Saratoga Springs which is where we're staying this time (my kids don't ever want to be a room anyway).

But, how many can I stuff in a room?

When I was a kid on spring break, that meant we could stuff 25 of us in a hotel room. :)

You are only allowed 5 total, plus 1 child under age 3, in a 1bedroom. If Disney finds out you have more than that, they will kick you out. And yes, people have reported that happening. You need to get a 2bedroom if you are over the occupancy limit.

In the one bedrooms that officially sleep four (like SSR, VWL, BCV and BWV), you are limited to five people, no five plus one. So you can have four plus one under five or five total.

In the one bedrooms that sleep five officially (OKW, BLT, AKV and GFV), you are limited to five plus one under the age of three.

With five kids, OP, you need a two bedroom villa.

Besides being required, you will appreciate having the extra bathroom and extra bedroom with 2 real beds. Even with just 2 kids I hate that there is only 1 king in the one bedrooms and everyone else has to be on pull outs in the living room.

The 2 bedrooms are like an apartment. Big table, huge kitchen besides what I mentioned above.

Besides the fact that Disney will not allow it I can't even imagine what it would be like to have 7 (assuming 2 adults) in a 1 BR. :crowded: Where would you all sleep?
