My wife and I bought in to DVC in January 2003 at BCV. I had noticed the DVC infomercial when we went down on our honeymoon a year and a half earlier, but at the time, getting a house and so forth monopolized our financial thoughts. So in January 2003, we decided we would at least see what it was all about and as we walked out of the STUDIO demo room, my wife grabbed me by the arm and TOLD me we were buying, which I am so glad that we did. Our first trip home was 3 weeks ago, even with staying at the moderate resorts there is no comparison. But what I noticed so much of this time down was that the DVC information centers are everywhere and there are DVC billboards everywhere. Has it always been this way? Comments are welcome.

Well, billboards, no. But even in 1992 there were info kiosks in the parks and they were quickly added to the resorts. In fact there used to be a large combination WDW info/DVC info desk inside the back of "Spaceship Earth", before the "Network Neighborhood" theme was put in.

Do you mind if I ask how you bought into DVC? Was it resale or were you somehow able to it through Disney? DH and I want into BCV without the hassle of a resale.

I think they had a big place in the MK - before you went down main street - not on the city hall side - but on the other one.

Yes there have been booths in all the WDW resorts (with a few exceptions for year) and at all the parks - and the TV ads have been since 92 (might have been 91) at the DVC channel in WDW.

I don't think I have sent any billboards?

According to my guide, DVC was sitting on a LARGE number of BCV points a couple of weeks ago. They are now offering them to new members, but I wouldn't hold out any hopes of $10 off. My guide said that promo is not going for sold out resorts.

Beca-- thanks for the tip. Maybe I should call sooner rather than later before those "large" number of points disappear!

jwmccullough, as I remember they always had the info kiosks at the parks and at all of the resorts. We also became members of the DVC @ BCV in 2003! We both must have been some of the last familys to buy before all the points ran out from the BCV systems.:smooth:

MamaCrush,

we bought our points for the BCV from the DVC, they were really trying to sell us points for BWV.As I recall they where almost sold out for the BCV as our guide told us we could buy there (BCV)but they only had a few points left before it was to be sold out. So we jumped at the chance to buy at the BCV. I do remember seeing a post on this forum about asking a guide about buying at BCV and them "finding" some points from Disney. Good luck in getting the BCV! We love it there. ::yes::

If you add up all of the points that will ultimately be offered at SSR alone, you get about 11 million. At roughly $90 per point, that's nearly $1 BILLION in revenue for DVC. I won't even speculate what it costs to build the resort, but I bet the margins are...comfortable.

Any wonder there seem to be more kiosks every time you visit? ;)

Don't get me wrong, I do love SSR. But I'd love to get my hands on some BCV points. I'm afraid to admit it even to myself, but that may be my heart truly lies.

Once I get my 200 SSR points paid off, I'm going to look into a BCV resale.

As for the original question, there definitely seemed to be way more DVC advertising in August 2004 than even February 2004 and when I originally went in May 2003.

Both my DW and I think there is more but we also have to admit that maybe it's because we notice it more. We are always tempted to run over and tell people who are looking to DO IT NOW!
