Hello All,
I am currently in the process of purchasing DVC points and had a few questions that I would really appreciate answers to:

-What months are the most desirable for 'use year' or does it matter?
(I plan on doing a lot of my trips on off times{Early Nov.,May})
-Would I still have 11 month 'ressie' privileges at say BWV if I have
150 points at BCV and 50 points at BWV?
-Personal opinions on BWV vs BCV?
(I am married with a newborn so family time and activities are important to us)
-If you have any other buying strageties, when to buy etc. or any other info I would be happy to read it(I do plan on using Timeshare Store)

Thank you in advance for a great discussion forum and for all your input!

Welcome to the DIS Boards, Roborn!

I'll take a stab at your questions:

Use year really only comes into play if you cancel a trip. If you think that your vacation pattern for the next few decades will be very stable, then it would be of some benefit to have a use year that would be just before the vacation time. That way, if you cancel during the last 30 days, you would have most of a year left to re-schedule.

We have a February UY and a December UY on our two contracts. It has been no big deal with either one so far.

In the scenario you outline, you would have 11 month booking capability at BWV for only the 50 points you own there. At the 7 month mark, you could use your BCV contract to book there as well.

Or, you could borrow and bank to give you as much as 150 BWV points to use at the 11 month mark.

You may have a newborn now, but most of the time during your contract period you will have older children or no children. So I wouldn't choose based on what your vacation looks like for just the next few years. Instead, I'd look at which one that you and your spouse like the best in terms of theming, location, amenities, etc. The really good news is that you can't make a bad choice...both are wonderful resorts with great locations.

Personally, I'd talk to all of the well-known DVC resellers (the Big 3) and tell them what you're looking for. Often, and especially with BCV, the contracts don't even make it to the open listing since they have their own list of clients interested in purchasing particular resorts as they get listings.

Also, in the resale market, just be aware that not all contracts are the same. Some have banked points from a previous year and might be more valuable. Some are "stripped", meaning that you wouldn't get any points for a year or more. Others might have points that are expiring soon and are too late to be banked.

We bought one contract through DVC and one through resale. Both were painless, and very worthwhile.

Good luck in your decision process!

Thanks Granny
I'm sorry to plead ignorance, but could you tell me what the other 2 resellers are of the 'BIG 3" besides The Timeshare Store

We purchased through Jaki Apetz at A Timeshare Broker. Here's their web site link...
http://www.atimeshare.com/disney

The other of the Big 3 is banned from this board, and any posts that put in their name or web site is either deleted or censored out. But if you do a Yahoo search for Disney Vacation Club resales and start poking around you should be able to find it.

Good luck!
