DVC must stop rentals.....

Ahhhh. I wondered why, for a while some of our points showed up as an Aulani contract (where we do not own). I asked when booking and in the conversation with the Cast Member was told they were mine but not why. I then got distracted by another part of the conversation and forgot to ask again. I forgot that until now. That is interesting to know.
Would it have been possible to use those points to book at 11 months (at whatever resort) if you didn’t have a contract there?
No - at least, no one reported that they were able to do so. I'm sure it would have been all over the boards had it been possible. ;) :)

No…they would have been locked down like OTU points are…not valid before 7 months.

That’s Bull. We should be trying to balance the demand. Why should It be impossible to book a room 6 months out?

Because we are in a first come, first serve point based timeshare that allows owners to book up to 11 months ahead of time.

Its the nature of the product we all bought. And, remember, you did have options for rooms at 6 months…just not the one you wanted.

They have a legal obligation to try and balance demand at home resorts for 11 month bookings…and the recent point chart changes to make fall more expensive and summer less is showing they are trying to do that.

But, there will always be a lot more people who want to travel certain times than rooms to book, especially studios.

The fact that you were able to book previously simply means that you were fortunate those years, not as many owners chose to travel then

This year, they wanted to and nothing suggests it’s is due to rentals since they existed when you had success.

The bottom line is now that there are more DVC owners in the system, who know that booking far out is needed to get what you want, the times of having choices less than 7 months out, during very popular times is over

I am 6 months out from my trip, and I can't get a full week in a studio anywhere. Disney has to stop the rental market, at least until the backlog of points clears. Members using their own points should have some availability at this point.
I'm a member using my own points. In 2018 I couldn't get a full week in a studio at my home resorts at 10 months in the fall I had to take a 1 bedroom. In 2021 I had to waitlist for 2 nights in a studio at SSR at 7 months out. I don't believe rentals are to blame. Owners who rent their points, can't spend more points than they own. I'm a 15 year member, I travel alone now since kids grew up, and if I want a studio in the fall I book at 11 months out. I'd be very surprised to see studio availability at 6 months out. Some people book their home resorts at 11 mths to be sure they have something, then try to switch at 7 months. The popularity of DVC, various festivals, marathon weeks etc., and the pandemic have contributed to the glut of points in the market. Since the shut down I've been banking points. Previous to that I was always in borrow mode. Hopefully things settle down a bit in the next year.

It’s not impossible to book a room 6 months out. Maybe can’t get the exact room you want especially during high season and holiday weeks. That’s different from flatout impossible. Look at other resorts, other room categories, split stays, waitlisting, etc. It helps to be flexible outside the home resort window.

Stop it now, you’re using logic! Rabble rabble rabble.

"balancing demand" does not mean "people should be able to get the unit they want under 7 months any time of year."

The product is designed to work on 11 and 7 month timelines. The only place they have responsibility to create some balance is 11 months, and the reality is even there it won't happen. They will never make August at CCV as appealing as the first two weeks of December (within the system economics) because that is a battle of Christmas Tree and decent weather against what amounts to walking across the surface of Mercury holding hands with Satan.

If you are selling your contract and not going anymore you won’t have to deal with this from now on.
Yeah, I again come back to, the OP can sell his points at an absolutely absurd profit if he wishes to do so at this point. I wish I had bought decades ago like he did.

The last part 🤣…And now I want to cancel our July trip and move to our regular December week to avoid the heat🥵

How far can ‘balancing demand’ go before causing other issues. Taking 5 points off a studio night in August would entice more trips to the surface of Mercury, then other times in the year will need to pay more points. Would those people mind absorbing that extra cost so they can have a better picks in the under 7 month window?

Hey now, I am looking forward to my august 14-20 trip to the surface of mercury.

The thing is that demand balancing is required as best they can for home resort booking and that is all.

They have no obligation to worry about what happens with trades to other places. . Matter of fact, BVTC could make point charts for non home resort owners that are different if they wanted to.

And, as an owner, I expect them to worry about my home resort options and nothing more.

Didn’t Christmas holiday weeks used to be handled with a lottery…? Things change, high demand seasons shift as owner demographics, min point buy-in etc change 🤷🏼‍♀️ Now, is there a guy on FB with a huge AUL contract stalking and snagging piece by piece every BCV available room that pops & renting them out…. there sure is. But the system allows it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes…there is language that addresses that in the contract.
