DVC monthly payment plan for AP

I like the idea if there's no interest added. Not sure I'll send a note though, as I tend to put aside what I'll be spending on the APs before we arrive.

Disney probably thought DVC owners have money, verses Florida residents who all either retired or are in the entertainment industry

It's interest free (currently) for FL Residents. We are currently on the payment plan for our 2 APs.

Sending an email now. Posting a link on member cruise dismeet thread. I sure hope this works!! It would be a great option to have.

I too sent an email, and I'm sure I will receive a call back about it as well. It could be nice option if implemented.

If Disney ticketing decides that having a monthly without interest plan would sell more APs to DVC members then yes it might come to pass.

DVC though is very different than Florida resident. I am sure Disney was trying to entice retirees in Florida to purchase an annual pass and to entice Florida residents away from the fantastic savings that Universal offers to Florida residents.

You have to always remember that when you want Disney to do something it has to be a benefit to them and not necessarily the customer. They are not a charity and I don't mean that in a snarky way but merely reminding us all they are a business.

Some DVC members seem to think Disney should be willing to give to them things simply because they are members.

Disney and even DVC will never see things that way. They see only what is in it for them.

If DVC feels this would increase sales to new members then yes they would campaign for it from Tickets.

It would be a nice convenience but I am not sure there is benefit enough to Disney and/or DVC to get it.

Might be a nice perk though for the points owned tier benefits, if they ever come out with that.

You made some valid points and I think there is the list of pros and cons associated with the payment plan. How many people will stop paying the monthly fee after using it for one trip, etc. With Florida residents they have the option of taking them to a Florida court if need be, etc if someone were to abuse the system in a great way. With DVC members, they could tie it into our DVC accounts and prohibit the use of points if someone tried to abuse the system (similar to what they do with any outstanding balances that didn't go through after check out).

I think if enough members wanted this, it is fairly harmless for Disney to implement it. But to offer it to everyone, could be quite problematic.

If the pass is for DVC members, then DVC would have the option to freeze your account. What does DVC do in the event that your dues are not current? I would guess that it would be a similar consequence.

This isn't just a payment plan for any person, you are basically using your DVC as collateral that you will maintain current payment on your AP.

Just sent an e-mail as well! I wish they would consider the Premier Passport as well, since we live on the west coast. We purchase Premium APs at Disneyland every year, and with our first trip home next year, we intend on getting the Premier Passport. $750+ per person is tough to stomach at once!

Wouldn't mind seeing this offered for DVC members but it's pretty easy to get to the same place even without Disney's help. Set-up a savings account specifically for vacation expenses or just unique to APs. There are plenty of reputable on-line financial institutions who can get you up and running in 5-10 minutes.

Schedule the new account to sweep the funds from your normal checking/savings every two weeks, 1x month...whatever timeframe you choose. It will be just like Disney is taking the money.

The money goes right into your vacation expense account and you even earn interest on it. Then when the time comes to buy APs, clean out the account and make the purchase.

Really I would urge anyone who is waiting for Disney to act to do this now. No reason to wait for them to do the same thing you can do yourself!!! :goodvibes

Not sure I understand this. My idea of all of this is that I tell Disney that I want 5 AP's and I start paying on them monthly. When they are paid off then they are mine. I guess the way that I equate it is a layaway plan for AP's. That's the option I am looking for.

This is exactly what I started doing a few months ago for MFs and APs. I think a payment plan for DVC members would be a nice feature, but for our family of five the payments would be enough each month that I prefer to just save in advance and pay 100% when we get the APs. Plus, in our case, we are trying to buy APs every other year (use them for a year and then take a year off), so the amount I set aside each month is actually less than a payment plan would be because the cost is spread over two years.

if you go with this plan - assuming it is like Seaworld - the discount you get now when you renew does not apply to monthly payments.

so do you want to save with your renewal - or do you want monthly payments.

Seaworld or US did not offer both.

Disney does allow FL Residents to renew using monthly payments at the renewal rate.

When you do a monthly payment plan with SeaWorld and/or Universal Orlando, those passes continue to be valid until you cancel them. We've had our SeaWorld passes for many years and they have not yet raised our monthly payment. So there is no true renewal on those.

Disney's Annual Passes expire in one year even if you use the monthly payment plan.

I got my Seaworld Platinum pass at least 7 or 8 years ago. I pay monthly (automatic credit card charge), and I have always gotten the senior discount. In fact, I pay the same now as I did when I first got the pass - no price increase at all over that time. (I don't know if they still do that for new passes though.)

eta: looks like I was typing when erionm was posting - - - so what he said is same for me!

then how come everytime when I asked for the discount - not the senior discount - the renewal discount - got told it does not apply to the monthly payments.

had one at seaworld for years too - until got mad at them - have not been back since 2006.

the senior discount and the renewal discount are not the same. if you paid them annually you got both. but if you paid them just the monthly you only got the senior discount.

I just sent my email. Hopefully this is something that can happen. It would be nice to just decide today that next month we are going to WDW and not have to worry about tickets.:yay:

That is pretty much what I said...there is little risk with DVC owners.

Not sure I understand this. My idea of all of this is that I tell Disney that I want 5 AP's and I start paying on them monthly. When they are paid off then they are mine. I guess the way that I equate it is a layaway plan for AP's. That's the option I am looking for.

My understanding is that this is not a "layaway plan", but rather spreading the monthly payments out over the year for the AP. So, if you were to purchase an AP today, you put the initial payment down and then pay monthly after that....if you stop paying, they cancel your pass and it is no longer valid.

While Disney probably never really goes into the "hole" on the pass, due to the initial payment required....it could be an administrative nightmare if the system were being abused on a wide scale. I think offering it to DVC would be the obvious next step if they wanted to expand this option to other guests though.
