DVC Merry Mixer?

A few years ago we went to a DVC Christmas event that I think was called Merry Mixer. It had characters in Christmas attire, snacks, etc. Do they still do this? I went to the DVC website, and it shows Welcome Home Wednesdays, but doesn't show this. We are going to be there Nov/Dec this year, and would love to attend again if it is still available.

It has been held in December for years now but the dates are not usually announced until a month or so in advance. The venue has also changed peridoically. The first few years it was held in a huge tent near the International Gateway at Epcot, but more recently has been in other locations. Last year it was in the Epcot pavillion between Canada and Great Britain.

They typically hold it once a week for three or 4 weeks. Last year they decided to not have the Christmas party (merry mixer) over Christmas week so we missed it. Hopefully they will have one the last week of December. We should get the dates the first or second week on November. We have been once and it was nice. Simple but nice...

We attended one at Epcot last year the Tuesday before Christmas. We received one ornamnet and a packaged gingerbread man for each of us. They had for the kids, characters, drinks, and a few other things. We did not stay long. I believe some people waited in line quite a while to get to the characters first. We just walked in about a half an hour after is started.

My theory: Disney is trying to get the most for their money at these locations around WDW and want to see if they can book them up. They would rather rent space to a function at a premium than to turn it over to DVC for whatever they do or charge on the books.

We also attended the one last year on the Tuesday before Christmas at Epcot. We stayed long enought to get our cookies and look around, got a few pictures with characters, and entered ourselves in the contest for one of two DVC gift baskets that they were giving away.

Never gave a second thought to our entries, I mean what were the odds. Lo and behold guess what was waiting for us when we returned home?!

That's exactly right.

There are dozens of locations which would work to some degree and DVC isn't committed to any specific day of the week. DVC would prefer to hold out for a good rate on unbooked space rather than locking-up something months in advance for a premium price.

Disney event planning will keep all dates and locations open to outside bookings as long as possible. Within a few weeks of December they'll take a look at what remains available and decide on a location & dates for the DVC mixers.
