DVC Merchandise Poor Quality

My wife and I both received a "Tervis Style" tumblers from our son for Christmas. This was a thoughtful present. He enlisted the help of our unofficial adopted son who took a trip to WDW prior to Christmas to purchase the tumblers.

We have had these tumblers for 4 days and the laminated DVC logo is already coming off. We have followed the instructions and hand washed them. A few years ago, we purchased olive green OKW coffee mugs and the exact same thing happened with the logo coming off.

I know if I call Disney Merchandise or DVC about the the matter I will get another tumbler or a refund. It is just frustratingWe used to buy a lot of DVC Merchandise and between the generic merchandise and the poor quality in the last 6 or 7 years we stopped buying souvenirs. Our son did not know how poor the quality has been at Disney. He was just buying a Christmas gift for his parents.

As it turned out, this was a tumbler Christmas for us. We received actual Tervis Tumblers from friends with a bottles of each of Vodka and Tonic (I believe there was a theme,LOL). The difference in quality between the real Tervis and the DVC knock off was noticeable. The actual Tervis was larger, no lamination on exterior (patch between insulation layers) and dishwasher safe. DVC's was inferior and priced 50% more than a larger Tervis Tumbler.

Sorry the mini rant... I will borrow Kevin Yee's phrase "Declining By Degrees" to help describe our frustration of how things have changed at DVC and Disney. Quality was never a problem at WDW. My wife still wears her purple DVC OKW Member embroidered T shirt purchased in 1998. One of the last T shirts she purchased at Vero the silk screening was crooked and faded quickly.........I don't want to even start on the $300-400 DVC Bags......LOL.

It's not DVC Merchandise, it's ALL the trashy stuff they sell now.

Just walk away and spend your dollars elsewhere. If enough of us do that they MIGHT catch on.

Confirm we've had this issue. I've had windbreakers do the same thing as far as the logos. Disappointing for sure. I've resorted to only buying (if I can find it) embroidered clothing. For other items, it's a risk.

It is a bit disappointing. I have Disney stuff from the parks and the Disney store that have held up for decades, while more recent purchases just didn't stand the test of time. You would think for the DVC stuff, they'd create some premium quality items. They could charge as much as they want, the items would sell to the hard core fans. Speaking of which...is the D23 merch better quality than the rest of the product line?

I bought a DVC BCV fleece 3/4 zip pullover a few years ago for like $55 and it pilled worse than my $14.99 fleeces from Target. AND I think it shrunk. I won't make that mistake again.

I wonder if the quality of the Tommy Bahama DVC shirts is also sub par. Anyone know?

I bought a sink drain strainer and the enamel Mickey parts fell off within a year. A shirt had a few small holes in it that I didn't notice till after I got back to NH. The Mickey bathroom cup discolored the first time I put it in the dishwasher and now the second foot broke off, glued the first one back on, but tossed it this time. The rubber hot plates and spatula are holding up well though. It is annoying when things you expect to last and pay too much for don't.

We regularly leave Disney Parks with money in our pocket that we had planned to spend. I won't pay top dollar for useless junk that won't last a week.

How's the quality of the few items?
FWIW, I *love* the Harvey bag my husband insisted I purchase at the D23 Expo this year. It is very sturdy and lots of fun!

Humm. You would think that being Tommy Bahama they would be better 'eh? I got a pair of those Mickey Crocs (looked like canvas boat shoes) 2 or 3 years ago - LOVED them but one got a hole in the toe. :( I've never had any other Crocs made with a fabric so not sure if that would be expected?

I agree. The embroidered stuff seems to last. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find desirable embroidered items anymore. It's hard to find unique coffee mugs and Christmas ornaments anymore. I have purchased the Starbuck's "you are here" mugs and the Starbuck's Christmas mug and, so far, they are surviving the dishwasher. My only DVC coffee mug, on the other hand, has not done well with hand washing. We have been bringing home fewer souvenirs every trip. It's all junk!

We used to buy an embroidered Polo or sweatshirt every trip to moralizing the trip. First they stopped making th e u ique themes shirts and sweatshirts with embroidery and then they started using the cheap shirts and sweatshirts that shrunk up and got wide, the sleeves shrunk and they look ridiculous. We ended up giving them all to goodwill. We still have polos and sweatshirts from the early 2000's that are good but starting to wear out.
The more money they make the cheaper they make the product. We always go to the Character Warehouse to shop, I can rationalize buying at half or more off.

I doubt the quality would be any different than any other Tommy Bahama shirt. I suspect they get them directly from Tommy Bahama and they won't want their brand name on sub par merchandise.

I have some Tervis from Hilton Head that is actual Tervis with the patch between the layers. We use them on a daily basis and I bought a Mickey head Tervis while there in November that is Tervis brand. The Mickey head is the wrap style and it seems as if it will hold up.

I buy Starbucks cups all the time and they wash and wear great. The xmas ones with gold trim must be hand washed and I have several. They are doing fine also.
I bought the Starbucks 'Disney Parks' cup and love it but it is also hand wash.

My older cups and mugs from Disney and made in China have washed the design away, with the exception of a few that are fired into the china such as the Fantasia mug.

Otherwise I also bring my souvenir money home with me. I also find Character Warehouse a dead loss these days - nothing I want there.

I've had the Tervis tumbler with the Mickey crest patch in the middle for quite a few years now, still looks good. I had the same issue with the Mickey sink drain, but I caved and bought another one.

We like the Character Warehouse, we usually find some shirts that are ok for the price.
