I am a DVC member who has never before rented my points. I requested a trade through Interval International several months ago, but still nothing. I was considering renting those points and then paying for the timeshare I wanted to exchange. Has anyone done this before and is there any problems doing this? Do you need to pay taxes on the income if you rent your points? Is it a good idea to transfer points to another DVC member and can you rent the points this way? Thanks for the help

Hi GOOFY BOB. I see that this is your first post. Welcome!

I don't have any answers to your questions, so I figured I would say Hi and bump your post. Good luck!

Where are you trying to trade using Interval? A lot of people that request through Interval let it ride for many months before they get their request. A broad range of dates and not requesting a holiday or school vacation helps. If it's Hawaii, accepting less than a 2 bedroom helps also.

Of course, renting your points out and paying cash for the resort you want is always another option. If you do a transfer to another member, it's pretty nice because you don't have to worry about renters cancelling or anything like that. Once the points are transferred, you're done with it.

If you transfer points to another member is it ok to charge them according to DVC contract? Also do you have to pay taxes as income if you rent or transfer. PS, I am trying to exchange for Marriott in Newport Beach or Four Seasons (2 bedroom) San Diego area

There is a thread here for rentals and transfers. You can see what the market rate is for points. I have done a transfer and several rentals this year because I had more points than I can use and it all worked out well.

now you were in request first - right.

the points aren't in II right?

DVC points aren't difficult to rent. II would be and you might even loose money.

so please say that you haven't given up points.
