DVC Members, who is from PA?

A long time ago......if you graduated from Central in 86 you remember watching those shootouts when you were VERY young because I worked there in the early 70's and the "Ghost Town in the Glen" theme ended soon after.

We're all still VERY young, aren't we? Isn't that part of the Dis magic?

Someone mentioned in an earlier post Angela Park... I don't remember where Angela Park was, but I have a very conscious memory of being nearly killed there when I was 4 or 5---My Grandmother and I were getting on the "skyride" and I was having trouble jumping up onto the seat. The operator couldn't get the safety bar down OR the ride stopped... Nearly pushed us off the platform where we would have fallen about 15ish feet onto the go-cart track.

Funny looking back at it now.

Blue&Gold,

Angela Park used to be on the Sans Souci Parkway in Wilkes Barre Township.
I never visited that park. As a kid from the Scranton area in the late 60's it seemed Wilkes Barre was just so FAR away. Now I have to laugh because I can be in Wilkes Barre in 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic. We also have some great information on Luna Park which was on the site of the current Nay Aug Park. I know my husband saved it to a file, but, not sure where. I'll check with him and email you the article. I think Luna Park was
in existence in the early 1900's and then had a massive fire. You might remember the remains of the old bridge that crossed Nay Aug gorge. That bridge actually was the entrance to the park. It's a neat piece of Scranton history.

Currently live in Enid, Oklahoma, but grew up in Penn Hills, a suburb of the Burgh! After over 20 years, still miss Pgh. a lot. So much to do, and love those trees and hills. Although, it's a draw when it comes to Orlando and WDW. Hope to retire there someday! (Or work at WDW).

:yay:

Angela Park was on 309 in Drums, PA near Hazleton. San Souci Park was on the parkway in Hanover Twp and there was actually a book written about it a year or so ago. Harvey's Lake had a nice park also but I can't remember the name. The merry go round was great.

I always loved the crooked house at Ghost Town/Rocky Glen and the shoot outs were fun. I also liked the can can dancers when I was little.

SSR owner here.

The name of that park was Hanson's. It was only open when we (my DH and I) were tots ourselves but we do remember the Haunted House ride best.

Lisa,

Sorry.......I completely got confused on Angela and San Souci Parks. As I said in my earlier post, I had never been there, but, for some reason I thought Angela Park was on San Souci Parkway. I do remember a park being at Harvey's Lake also. I remember in the summer they used to have concerts there all the time (1960's). My cousin, who was several years older than me (she was a teenager in the 60's) used to go to all the concerts. I remember being very envious because I wasn't old enough to go.

I think about how great my memories are of Rocky Glen and Angela park (when they weren't trying to kill me it was a lot of fun) and it reminds me that my 2 boys (6 & 4) probably will be just as happy on Goofy's Barnstormer-riding 3 or 4 times-as waiting once for Space Mountain!

Most of my school trips from 6th grade on were to Hershey... Haven't been there in about 8 years or so. Have they done much there?

Gosh, I'm homesick. Grew up in Newtown Square, lived in West Chester before moving to No. Virginia. But the rest of my family is all still in Delaware and Chester counties.

We love Newtown Square. We go there a lot for lunch and to walk around the farmers market.

I'm racking my brain here trying to remember the name of this! I lived at Harvey's Lake for a few years and near the old site of this park. It will come to me...

updated to add: now I see someone posted the answer -- Hanson's

In the 90s they updated this area a bit, added a bandstand and had concerts there. I've seen Air Supply, Kris Kross (don't laugh) and Natalie Merchant there. The community started complaining about the noise so they eventually stopped holding concerts. I used to be able to walk down my road and through the campground area into this pavilion. I can remember so many great nights!

Hey Blue&Gold,

I used to work summers at Rocky Glen when I was high school.......made many, many hoagies at the "Hoagie Hut" while watching those "shootouts" and way too much cotton candy stuck all over me!!!!
Oh my goodness...my husband's first job ever was at a funnel cake stand at Rocky Glen park! I think we saw Bon Jovi there years and years and years ago!

I live in Danville (small town in north central PA off Route 80).
My other home is about 1300 miles from where I am now (and I'm really excited to be going there in less than 2 weeks!).

Born and raised in Scranton, PA. I too, remember Rocky Glenn! Best damn roller coaster of it's time!!! My husband worked there as a teenager. He was from Taylor, PA. I graduated from Bishop Hannan in 83 and my DH from Riverside in 78.

Boy do I have a fondness for Danville. My son was born three weeks early at Geisinger Medical center in Danville. We were in the area that weekend for a wedding when my water broke. My MIL took my son there a few years ago to show him where he was born. This was close to fifteen years ago.
