I'm curious to those who are knowledgeable and were at the meeting if it is effective immediately that DVC members can purchase TIW without an AP?

The effective date, price and additional details have yet to be announced.

My guess? Sometime in 2012.

Did they say what the charge would be for DVC members? Same as FL residents or same as AP holders? Or a totally different price?

WOW!!!! Great nmews:).. I'm not a fan of the Dining plans ,but we do enjoy going out to eat.

I can't wait to get more details. APs aren't worth it for us with our travel patterns to WDW as a generality so this is great.

Wow, this is very exciting! We loved our TIW card this past year. Over three trips, we saved just about $800.

any word on a TIW card for DVC members, i am heading down in May on our first DVC trip and don't want to buy a AP and prefer not to have the DDP, I really like the idea of the TIW card. I was even thinking of getting 1 AP just so i can buy the card, since only 2 of us are going and we like to eat at more signature resturants the TIW seems like a better deal for us.

We are heading down on January 20th and would LOVE to have the TIW card - especially since we just invited the 6'6" nephew along. :)

Hopefully we can get it soon. :worship:

My wife and I will be there on Jan 5 to run in the Half Marathon. And eat. A lot. Seriously, a LOT. At lots of fancy restaurants. EXPENSIVE fancy restaurants. Without our children. So we can buy adult beverages. EXPENSIVE adult beverages.

So, let's hope TIW is available on January 1!

We am in the process of purchasing in SSR for first time, resale. Would TIW be a better deal than DDP. We are going in May with just our DS 15 and DD 19 but planning to take 7 more family members (3 teenagers, 1 child and 4 adults) on a trip in December 2012. Which would you recommend? How does TIW work?

Info about TIW here on the DIS

As to whether DDP or TIW is better, there are many threads about this - I encourage you to look around here and read. In short, though, the answer is that it depends and largely it depends on the way that you tend to eat. The DDP is a LOT of food - if the plan fits your eating style, then it may make some sense. In general, though, the DDP is best considered a way of prepaying for your meals, not saving money - the amount of money savings tends to be depressingly small or nonexistent for most people. TIW allows you the freedom to pick and choose what and how you want to eat. Sorry, realize that it's not much of an answer.

It REALLY depends on your eating style. We have done both.

DDP is a lot of food. you get the best value if you eat TS for dinner and order expensive things. You can also save desserts (dessert either every meal..ahh) in the fridge for breakfast the next morning.

I think with a group as large as yours, depending on eating habits, esp if you're going to eat together most of the time, then TiW is a good choice. The discount extends to up to 10 people at your table. With that many people, you could easily make the money back from the card in 2-3 meals. Another option, if you feel your meals can fit into DDP would be to split the cost of TiW on top of that so you can get a discount on any extra TS meals or any adult beverages or appetizers you decide to add on.

Before the DDP we didn't eat many TS per trip. We were younger and poorer. On our last trip before the most recent one, we tried the DDP. It was a LOT of food. I had no fridge so 'd save desserts on ice to eat as breakfast or a snack the next day. We used our snack credits at the food and wine festival so it worked out. For us, it forced us to eat TS, and so we learned about new places and e really got into dining at Disney on that trip heras before, food was a way to keep us going touring, or a TS was for a sepcial treat.

This past trip we decided to do TiW. in 7 nights we had 7 TS meals, 2 of which would have cost 2 credits. We had probably about the same number of QS meals and virtually no snacks. The snacks however can be used to candy and other items that can be taken home.

We decided to do TiW since I felt the up front cost of DDP was scary. Really, it would have amounted to the same. Also, since we're taking at least 2 trips this year, I thought it would work out. I haven't looked at all of our receipts yet, but we actually almost made our money back on this one trip. I made DH save the receipts because I want to compare the savings on DDP vs. TiW for future reference.

I think for our October F&W trip, we might do DDP even though we already have TiW. TiW will save us money on our alcoholic beverages and any extra meals and we can get the benefit of using snacks for F&W portions. I think DH preferred doing DDP (he's the one who handles the bills) because it was all a pre-set amount. Even though DDP doesn't save you a lot of money, it's better to kno what you're spending in advance so you're not shocked by each $27 QS and $80 TS meal tab.

Sorry for that non-answer

Anyone heard any more info on this?

Specifically the "when/where/how"?

We have LOTS of time before our trip (Dec 2012), and my plan was to do a discounted DVC AP and TIW for this trip. I'd LOVE to not have to fork over the additional $$ for the AP!

Per Tim at DVCNews.com:
According to a Disney Vacation Club spokesperson, details are still being finalized for the Tables in Wonderland offering. Current projections are that the dining card will be available for member purchase sometime in "early spring" 2012. That would place earliest card availability in the late-March / April timeframe.
