DVC Members and a Disney Cruise......

Considering scheduling a Disney cruise in 2004 or 2005. Just wondering what other members thoughts are on points vs. cash, which category of room, etc. Just recieved a quote from Dreams Unlimited for four, two adults, two children, family stateroom with verandah, for four night cruise, for Feb 2005 - $3,000. I am sure there are a lot of DVC members out there who cruise often and have it down pat on the most economical way. As this will be our first cruise, I need some advice please.....

cash is generally better - they apply the discounts to cash - points are the same regardless.

you can do both - use your points for you and cash for everyone else - you must go through MS to do this

For comparison for your cruise price from DU..........we are cruising this Feb(4 day cruise) in a catagory 6 with verandah with only 2 adults.

We chose to book with DU instead of using DVC pts.It would have cost us 320 pts through DVC for 2 adults. Booking through DU with cash we got it for $1700. We also got $50 rebate and $50 on-board credit going through DU. We booked this about 17 months out. Plus if somthing came up and we had to cancel, you can get a full refund through DU up until 30 days out.

Booking through DVC costs you $75 to book it. And you can only do it at 11 months out.

Thanks for the information. Does DVC offer a discount when you book through them only paying cash and using no points?

Someone correct me if I am wrong.........but I think if you book through MS at least one person has to be booked with points.

You are correct. MS does not book "cash only".
