Sort of. You suddenly qualify for things that are superior.
Let's start with tickets.... as a DVC Member, you qualify for a Gold pass. Or Platinum - your choice. Gold is about $200 LESS per year, with blackout dates during Spring Break/Easter, and XMAS. Platinum? No blackout dates.
Dining: as a DVC Member, you may purchase a TIW card, at $150 per year (payback at $750 per year expense). This isn't anyone's "plan" - it's a straight 20% discount with fixed 18% gratuity. Read about this HERE:

I mention these, as items that hold little value for a "once every 5 year" person. But as a DVC Member - your frequency of attendance is very likely going to be MUCH greater.
Sandy and I go to WDW twice per year, as DVC Members. TIW saves us a good $650 per year ($811 per year if card timing is done right). Gold Passes save us SERIOUS cash, and have Park hopping capability built in.
The two combined allow you to go where you wanna go, eat as you wish to eat... with whoever you wanna eat with
