DVC member button in the parks

We'll be at BLT starting 3/1/2010, and we are definitely looking forward to getting one of these buttons. I'm not worried that I'm advertising for DVC if I wear the button. Heck, if you look at all the Disney stuff I wear - lanyard with Disney and DVC pins; Mickey t-shirts; AK backpack, etc, etc - I'm already a walking advertisement for the Disney Corporation.

I figure the buttons could help us keep track of our Disney trips. On the back of the button I'll write the dates of our trip and where we stayed. As time goes by, my wife and I have those senior moments where we can't recall the exact dates of a trip, or confuse one hotel for another.

And there might be another advantage to wearing the button: Maybe I'll strike up a conversation with someone about DVC, and that person will be someone from the disboards, like Dean, Chuck S, tjkraz, Crystal_27, work2play, Bobbiwoz, or TSMIII or so many others that I've gotten to know here in cyberspace.

I'm a happy DVC owner, and I'll probably wear it, some of the time at least. I don't always remember to wear my Disboard Button either, and every time I see the AK Convervation buttons, I think, my heavens, I left mine at home again, and I have a few of them!!!!

Yes, but CMs are accustomed to looking for celebration type buttons to make a comment, not the trading type pins.

True, but non-DVCers could trade for the pins too.

If the pin is personalized... member at _ _ _ since _ _ _ _, I think there will be less people who would want to trade for it.
Just like personalized name pins, not very high demand for those.

Maybe by wearing the button, though, somebody would ask about DVC. That gives us the opportunity to tell them a little bit, give them a referral card, and possibly get some spending money out of the deal ourselves! Heck, I'll wear the button and hand out some referral cards if I can actually earn something myself. Besides, it's sharing the magic even if all it does is strike up a conversation.

Yeah, I agree. If DVC gave me a *nice* personalized pin, I wouldn't trade it for anything... Even if DVC offered a nice "member only" pin that wasn't available for purchase and wasn't customized with the date (only the resort) that would be cool. I'm still hoping to find a BLT pin and not have to pay $90 for one on Ebay.

Agreed. What is the point in advertising how long you've been a member? Are you more special if you bought in early? They may be using it as an advertising tool under the cloak of making members feel special but they missed the mark.

Now I can add this button to my tote bag collection. If this keeps up, I might have several "free" items that cost about $20 grand

Okay, so I'll give it a try I guess and just see what I think. DH has a birthday while we are there later this week, so I'll maybe wear my DVC button the day he wears his Birthday button. I'm sure it's going to be like the wildlife fund buttons I buy each visit though....I'll get it and forget it!

Beginning 2/26/10, DVC members will have their own special celebration buttons. Buttons that say "Member Since" will be available for DVC members to customize with the year they joined the Club. Guests wearing these buttons will be greeted by cast members with the phrase "Welcome Home".

Do you just ask for them when you call the resort ahead of time? I read about them over the weekend and was really excited to get one! Do you have to be celebrating something to get one?
