For those of you not in the North Texas area there is a pretty nasty strom rolling through DFW right now. I am axiously awaiting new photos from DVC Jen since she is a storm spotter! So far it brushed just north of us where I am thank goodness. There was a report of a tornado on the ground, but thankfully not a lot of damage so far.

So Jennifer, I hope you stayed safe, had no hail dents in you car, and got some great shots! All you other DFW residents remember to duck and cover when you hear the sirens, not stand on the roof with a video camera like my idiot neighbor.

My sis lives in Haltom City and they got hit pretty hard.. Fence is down, cars damaged by hail etc.. they havn't been able to look at the roof yet because of nightfall. We just got a lot of strong wind and rain up here in Sachse.
Hope everyone in the Dallas area is safe and sound!

Lewisville got lucky, it was originally heading right for us. Rained too much for me to pull my camera out to try and get some pics of the storm. Hope everyone made it through okay!

I live 3 miles for where the tornado hit in Haltom City. Crazy time. Lots of hail but no damage for us.

I was all ready to get some. I have everything loaded into the car. We were at our spotting location.

My husband had just picked up take out from chilis when the pager went off so we decided to just eat in the car.

yeah - right! :sad2:

We were not parked for more than 5 minutes before we knew this was going to be a bad one. We pulled the radar up on the laptop and saw one large area of circulation just north west of us and another just southwest. Both were heading east - our direction.

The leader of our local RACES group decided to give it 5 more minutes to see if the storm would split over Dallas. Well 3 minutes went by the radar refreshed and there were 3 more additional areas of circulation coming directly at us. My husband got on the ham radio - and called it in and the sirens started going.

We were parked in the parking lot of the church I teach preschool for - they were having Parents Night Out and I knew they would not hear those sirens in that big building so I ran in to tell them. By the time I got back out a lowering of the clouds was spotted about 2 miles south of us so we changed our location slightly.

Then golf ball sized hail started pounding the car and we had to take cover.

So - to answer your question. No. I was really bummed but it blew in so fast and we were on the northern side of the worst circulation - where all the heavy rain bands are.

I could barely see across the road and it went from late afternoon lighting to midnight in a matter of minutes.

I was scared - it isn't fun being out in the middle of all of that when you know a tornado could drop at any second.

Hopefully I can get some good ones next time - and we all know there will more than likely be a next time soon with the way this storm season is going.

How did everyone from the metroplex fair? I hope OK.

Well, I took a few, though nothing as cool as a storm spotter would see. The rainbows after the storm were the brightest, most vivid I have EVER seen! You can actually see the violet!:

And this is during the storm (DD14 had a couple of friends over to celebrate her 15th bday this coming week... they got to spend about 20 mins or so huddled in the hall bathroom -our tornado shelter. It was exciting, if nothing else).

Great rainbow shots. The hail was fun huh?

I got hit in the back of the head with a golf ball sized hail stone. It hurt! :scared:

OUCH!

I got caught out in the hail storm of 1995, the one that pounded Mayfest in Fort Worth. I was moving out of my apartment. That was when I learned baseball sized hail will punch holes in the plastic door panels on a Saturn!

I did not get any shots either. I figured after just making our tornado plan I should actually follow it with the kids! So we camped out in our safe spot eating chinese food and watching tv until it passed.

I remember that storm. That was a BIG one. I am sorry about your car, but to be honest I glad it was just your car that got the baseball sized hail and not your head. There were alot of people seriously hurt from that storm.

Oh, it was my Mom's car. Mine was safely parked at her house in Azle, though I was driving a Saturn at the time as well. She ended up getting a new Mazda 626 out of it and my Dad finally built her a carport, so she was happy in the end.

Yes, a lot of people were hurt out at Mayfest and other places from that hail. I was supposed to be out there that evening, but was not finished packing to move.

Severe weather always sems to hit when we move. The night we moved from Arlington into our house here in Grand prairie was the night the tornao hit downtown Fort Worth in 2000. I told DH we should not move again!

Let me know if you are moving again and I will warn everyone. ;)

The tornado of 2000 hit right before my wife and I left for Houston to get married. A friend of ours (one of the groomsman) was in town from Maryland and we were all just glued to the tv. Seeing the Bank of America tower after that was always weird. Another friend of ours was the first person to move in when they finally got the apartments/condos done there. He also went on Lingo and totally owned the other team, and then got all of the words at the end and won 10k. He's one of those guys that always finds himself in the spotlight, but only because he can find out ways to get there.

My mom had just retired a month before then from Tandy. She worked in Tower 2, which was just across a parking lot from the Bank One building. Glad she retired when she did!!!!

No kidding! I always wondered what would happen if a tornado hit a downtown area, just didn't think I'd ever find out!
