Many outlets are reporting Disney's tentative plans to build Disney-themed hotels and "mini"-parks outside of DL and WDW. However, the Wall Street Journal (sorry, I don't have a link, just the paper) goes into more detail, which included:

"The company also plans to build its presence in timeshare vacation homes in places like the Caribbean."

and

"Disney's timeshare business, DVC, is also plotting new locations. Outside of Florida, the company may consider locations such as California, Mexico, and the Caribbean, says Mr Rasulo." (Jay Rasulo, chairman of Disney's theme park and resort business).

So much for the theory that Disney would never consider DVC outside of WDW or DL (after VB and HH). Will have to wait and see if it comes to fruition, but they are considering it.

To bad they didn't mention The Rockies or Hawaii, though. That would have sparked some discussion.

Just read that article at lunch today. Interesting. Also worth noting is that the themed resorts and "mini-parks" are said to include timeshare units as well, presumably DVC but maybe not.

The more locales the better!!! I'd love some other options to visit within the DVC system. :)

Shame they didn't mention Hawaii. But if they are considering the Caribbean (the poor man's Hawaii), and Mexico, I'm sure Hawaii is on the short list too.

Interesting. California certainly makes sense because of DL.

The Caribbean/Mexico they could tie in with the cruises, but there are a lot of issues in most places there -- exchange rates, political instability, corruption, etc.

This report is consistent with the rumor I mentioned last year. DVC is looking to partner with Resorts in building mini DTD's with timeshare/hotel accomodations at offsite locations. I even heard they are discussing entertainment venues. You could see ESPN playing a key role as well. Stay tuned. This could get interesting.

I would love a DVC in the Caribbean!! I have never heard it called the poor man's Hawaii though ....

But if they are considering the Caribbean (the poor man's Hawaii).....

You'll have to let Michael Jordan know about this since he has a home on Anguilla. Or maybe Richard Branson who happens to own Necker Island in the BVI or maybe the Rockefellers who founded Caneel Bay on St. John then donated most of the island to the National Park Service. I have never heard this expression and am quite surprised.

DVC would do very well to locate in the Caribbean. Even though it's not in the Caribbean, maybe my long running prediction of Castaway Cay isn't as far off as first thought (and I don't want to hear about the bugs. There were bugs in Orlando before Walt arrived too).

If this is true.....:cool1: I will be very excited.

I HOPE it is true and does happen.....SOON!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

While Castaway Cay is a cool idea, having DCL or charter air as the only means of getting there would be just too limiting to make it realistic. A DVC DCL itself would be more likely (albeit remote too.)

The WSJ article I quoted above also mentioned the building of new cruise ships (not a surprise there), maybe with enough clamoring, we can get them to earmark one for DVC!

I would prefer Hawaii (more interesting) over the Caribbean, but if they do, I wonder if they would try to stick with a US territory (i.e., St. Croix, St. Johns, even Puerto Rico). Would be less risky.

Unfortunately, "Mexico" probably means "Cancun". Its nice and all, but would like something different.

The Rockies would be cool, California is a given. What (realistically) else could be considered?

Whatever they do, I hope they don't do the Bahamas. Flat and boring, may as well be in Florida.

Bermuda would be cool, a draw for our DVC members across the pond?

I would guess Bahamas or a US territory. That way they can also offer excursions there from the DCL ships.

Why would it have to be one location in the carribean? It would be nice to have a couple of places in the carribean, and maybe near cruise ports so DCL could visit those resorts as well.

I'd love to see a DVC in the UK or Ireland. I've never understood why they put Eurodisney in France when the bulk of European visitors seem to come from the uk??
