DVC HELP!! Incentives & other ?'s

Alison, I'm absolutely floored that your Guide would tell you that you didn't get a savings if you had a referral - - that's certainly not at all the case. Either way, best of luck to you as you go through your DVC buying journey!! It's soooo much fun!! (And, don't worry - - you'll be a DVC expert in no time at all - LOL).
.

I suspect she isn't eligible for the referral, since she didn't mention it at the initial tour. You usually have to state that right up front to get it. Since she has already taken the tour, a referral would not be possible now either. That's the way I understand it anyway.

Hi Crystal 27
I am interested in using you as a referral. Please post an email address if possible. I am not sure how to send a PM.

Thanks!

Awww, thank you so much!! I just sent you a PM but you might have to get up to 10 posts in order to send PMs. Just post a couple more times to get yourself up to 10 posts and you should get the PM option. If that still doesn't work, just send an email. I'll reply to that with my information. Thanks again!! :flower3:

That is not true in my case. I had our tour in Sept and never mentioned a referral. When we came back and made the decision to join I called my Guide and told her that I have a referral and she gave me no trouble what so ever.

I am just glad to hear that you were able to get the discount for the referral once you were back home. If she will not give us the discount then we just will not buy.
Did you buy within the 72hr window of coming home? We are past the 72 hrs and our guide is away until next Monday so i am not sure what is going to happen about the discount that was discussed at our tour.
72hrs was just not enough time for my DH and i to make a choice. We did not even plan on talking with anyone but we got a chance to visit Kadani village and just decided to get more details. I am crossing my fingeres as DH and I have still not decided yes or no.

No. We toured in Sept and just purchased this month.

BTW how was Kadani Village? That is where we are staying in Jan. We can't wait.

Kadani was great. Last week were staying at AKL and got invited to go over to Kadani. I was so excited, I was secretly wishing we would get a chance to go over. The place is great. The pool and kids area are wonderful, my boys wished they could play and go down the slides. The rooms were great and I actually thought that they were a little brighter than the ones over at AKL.
We did not see any animals close to the village most were over closer to Jambo house. The community room was so nice. They had a pool table and lots of games for the kids. They also have what they call the Library, where they will have various kids activities going on.
I wish i had pictures but was so excited to go over that I forgot my camera. Can't wait until we start seeing more pictures and reviews from people who are staying there.

I have no idea if our PM works, but we're interested in using someone as a referral. PM me if you can help us out. We are buying this weekend!

Like you, we were initially looking at BLT because of it's proximity to the MK and lower MFs. But after speaking to others on here and our guide we ended up going with AKV. He said that all of the children's activities that are offered at AKV and the animals drive up the MFs. We think that our 2 young boys would enjoy the environment at AKV much more than BLT....but that is a just us.

While the fees are higher at AKV...the amount of points needed per stay looks to be less than BLT. The per point discount incentive at AKV is $2 more. And finally, we just this past weekend were able to buy into AKV Jambo and were able to start off with an 08 UY which gives us 200 pts now with another 200 coming for our 09 UY.

As mentioned previously, member referrals also help knock down our cost somewhat...that's another 8 off per pt. In Jan we planned on 160, but because of the current incentive and member referral we actually ended up getting more. When you are ready to make your decision (we took 3 yrs!!!) let me know if you need a referral! Good luck in making your final decision!!

Simple answer to your question: you need a current DVC member to act as a referral in order to receive the additional discounted price point. If you use an existing member referral, you will receive BLT at $98/point for up to 199 points, and BLT at $96/point for 200+ points. You also have the option of a cruise instead of the additional discounted price point but if you have children, you will have to pull them out of school for the cruise so that might not be good for you.

I'm sure that anyone here would be more than happy to act as your referral, including myself. Best of luck to you! :goodvibes

Also, don't discount BLT's location, which is on the monorail and within walking distance to MK. That's what finally settled us on BLT - - location, location, location. :thumbsup2
We just got back from WDW and took a tour of the DVC. We actually had started investigating it last year. We are looking for a referral. I saw in your post that you would be willing to be one. I also would like to have a phone conversation to ask some questions. Would you be willing to talk by phone? Best time to call is 7:30 pm central time.

We are looking for a referral / reference who would be willing to have a phone conversation to answer some questions. We are located in t he Central Time Zone and best time for us to talk is around 7:30 at night.

Thanks!

Just wanted to add that we took our tour in January 2009 and didn't name a current DVC member for the referral, but when we decided to buy at BLT :yay: we told our guide we had a referral and she took the information, no problem. I think you can add the referral later - definitely worth the savings!

New Incentive effective 4/1......

New contracts:
$8. discount off $112. for GC & BLT
$10. discount off $112. for AKV
$13. discount off $112. for SSR/THV

These "new owner" incentives are good only with an "existing member referral"..

Existing/New members: (same as the previous incentive)
existing members Add on 100 pts: a 3 night cruise for 4 (160 for newbies)
existing members Add on 125 pts: a 4 night cruise for 4 (200 for newbies)
existinf members Add on 200 pts: a 7 night cruise for 4 (270 for newbies)

OR

These "new owner" incentives are good only with an "existing member referral"..

Newbie..
Take an additional $$ off the already discounted price....
160 pts take $6.
200 pts take $8. etc...

Existing member...
Buy 100 pts take an additional $6. off the discounted price.
Buy 125 pts take an additional $8. off the discounted price.

So...buying into BLT as a newbie...there can be a $14. discount off the original $112. price.

As always call your guide for more "official" answers.
So, if I am reading your post right, if I buy into DVC, I get the $8 discount they told me about then with a referral of an existing member I can get with additional $ off OR a Disney Cruise?

This is correct -OR- if you have a Disney Visa you could also choose two free Annual Passes as your "extra" reward, although I don't believe that one requires a referral.

Essentially the bonus is 1) extra $$ discount, 2) cruise, or 3) 2 Annual Passes (with Disney Visa downpayment).

Our vacationing style...we like to stay in the more Deluxe accomodations. We had two children ages 3 1/2 and 2 months. We want to be able to have a separate room from them. We also like to travel to destinations other than Disney. With that said, I have some questions I need help with. (Also looking for a referral and reference to talk to on the phone.)

1. How do I determine how many points I need?

2. What are the advantages of the different hotels? We just stayed in the Disney Beach Club Resort and we did not like it as much as we liked the Wilderness Lodge (mainly because of transportion to the parks). We are considering BLT as our home property.

3. Is it easy to book at properties other than your home property?

4. What is an "Add-on"? Is that just adding on points? Or are their other add-ons?

5. Does this make since if you plan on alternating vacations inside the club with other destinations (i.e. ski trips, Vegas, Hawaii, etc.)?

I am sure I will have more questions to come. Please HELP!

I sent you a PM about arranging a phone conversation.

1. How do I determine how many points I need?

You would need to determine how often you'd like to go, whether you want a 1BR or a 2BR, and where you'd like to stay most often. Then you can run the numbers.

2. What are the advantages of the different hotels? We just stayed in the Disney Beach Club Resort and we did not like it as much as we liked the Wilderness Lodge (mainly because of transportion to the parks). We are considering BLT as our home property.

Location, theming, maintenance fees, and point requirements per stay. BLT has tremendous transportation benefits and low maintenance fees, but requires more points for the typical stay.

3. Is it easy to book at properties other than your home property?

In my experience it is, provided you book at least 5-6 months out and are not looking to book super high demand times (food & wine festival, early december... times when point costs are low and there's a special attraction/event happening).

4. What is an "Add-on"? Is that just adding on points? Or are their other add-ons?

Adding on additional yearly points.

5. Does this make since if you plan on alternating vacations inside the club with other destinations (i.e. ski trips, Vegas, Hawaii, etc.)?

Not sure what you mean on the last one. You can exchange all over the place, but your best "bang for the (points) buck" is in using your points on DVC properties - including Hawaii. Booking a Disney cruise on DVC points is generally not cost effective, as it costs a TON of points for what you get.

Clarification question...the "add-on" is jsut adding on points for a given year or adding onto your contract?

Adding on to your contract - more points every year (and more maintenance fees too!)
