Dvc Hawaii

completely new to all of this but it seems like the best option is to rent/sell your dvc points and then just purchase a weeks stay at a hotel/timeshare of your choice. everyone feel free to correct me if i am wrong. like i said, completely new to this.
if we need to exchange 160pts for a week, that is approximately $1600.00 dollars. that is based on renting/selling your points for 10/point. seems to be the average i have seen from the few times on the board. there are alot of timeshare rentals available in hawaii. here is one: http://www.sellmytimesharenow.com/details.php?idadd=143921
one week stay, 2bd, in kauai during week 29 for 1200.00 dollars. i just did a quick basic search but i am sure you could find something during your vacation time. it just seems like a better option, to me at least. hope u get what u want. i plan on using my points one of these days to get back to maui (my happiest place on earth!) :)
To anyone with any experience trading or who has traded with II for hawaii please let me know what you think. thanks!

Earlier in this thread I stated I was going to concentrate on II exchanges and I have done that. However, on previous similar threads I've listed a number of options including renting your points to get cash for another rental, direct exchanges with other timeshare owners and the use of the independent exchange companies. I'm a big fan of giving myself options. I basically do all of those at one time or another and frequently work several to all of them for a given desired outcome although I add non DVC exchanges to the mix now with both II and RCI. Here's how it might work for HI. One might put in a request for your A list for all applicable weeks. Around the same time you might list either points or a reservation for rent. You could also contact several of the exchange companies, esp the ones that allow search first. And one might list in anyone of a number of sites for a direct exchange. As soon as one option precludes the others, you abandon the rest. That gives you the best chance of success, usually at the best rate and access to the most options possible. It also opens you up to condo's and many resorts not on the II DVC exchange list or not even in II at all.

Here's my experience on 3 HI trips. In 2002 we went for 2 weeks wanting Maui plus one other island. I followed my advice above plus a regular II exchange request using a Marriott trader. I did put in a request through DVC as well. I ended up getting a week for the Embassy (now Sunterra) on Maui for a 1 BR through the San Francisco Exchange company. After that I got a 2 BR for the Embassy on Kauai as a direct exchange for 138 DVC points which later evolved into a rental for $900, Since I had another exchange week, I went back to SFX and ended up getting a second 1 BR the same week as the first to have more room for 4 people. I also used FF miles for 4 people flying in to Maui and out of HNL.

This past fall I bought and had finalized a 2 BR Marriott week as a trading unit. This is a lockoff so once I was in their system with that unit, I locked it off and deposited both portions getting a bonus week. I then traded the studio for the Maui Marriott for a studio for Sept and the bonus week for a DVC week. I just traded the 1 BR portion for a summer Marriott Surfwatch 2 BR. The Maui studio is for my daughter and SIL for a delayed honeymoon. I also got them tickets with FF miles. So they'll have to pay for their interisland, 3 days in a hotel on Oahu, rental car and what they spend/eat.

I also own points with Bluegreen. I deposited a 1 BR with II and a 1 BR with RCI. I got the Westin Maui for Jan using the BG deposit through II and the Fairfield Waikiki (Wyndam) for a 1 BR through RCI. Also two FF miles first class tickets to Oahu with points gotten through my Marriott rewards card.

   gonna have to read that one a few times. thanks dean. i have alot to learn about the system. in my simple mind it just seems like renting dvc points then purchasing a week somewhere else is a better deal than trading. thats assuming no other timeshares are owned for trading.
not to hijack the thread but can i ask which marriott you own? i am currently looking into marriotts. on second thought, this WILL turn into a hijack so i'm gonna go ahead and start a new thread.
btw good luck on your trade peanut1 hope u get what u want!!!

I responded on the new thread RE: marriott's. In your simple mind you've really hit on a far better choice than most make for timeshare exchanges.
