I'm already planninga trip there in 2012. It's for our 20th aniversary trip but we will be taking kids also but i informed my DH that i wanted to go to hawaii for our 20th anniversary gift. We own at BLT and have 200 pts. which i already don't think is enough pts but can't convince DH to shell out more money at this time.

Anyways, I'm already trying to plan out pts and all and wondering if i will need to bank all of our 2011 pts and 2012pts for it. I know it is way to early but i guess DVC is right for me as i'm planning that far ahead already huh??

Anyone want to give a shot at this?? TIA

I'd use the BLT points chart for 2010 as a reference point for the Hawaii DVC. Assuming it will take more points to stay in Hawaii, I'd addAdd 3-5 points (or more) per night to get a feel for how many points it will take to stay there once it opens.

Being that Hawaii is the number 2 requested stay after disney properties, I have a feeling the points are gonna be very high & it will be VERY hard to book unless it's your home resort.

dude the point chart is gonna be crazy, probably like 100 points a nite for a studio in the low season

I agree that the points will be high however I think that's a stretch. You can actually stay in Waikiki on cash for pretty reasonable rates. Look at Costco travel...there comes a point where it's just not worth it to try to stay somewhere on points. If they're TOO high they'll outprice themselves if you can stay for less somewhere else. JMO. High yes. THAT high...doubt it.

I would also agree with Robo-Daddy about looking at the current BLT charts. Just as a guideline for now...don't expect anything any less than those...

The VGC chart is a good one to use for points. Rooms run $300-$500 per night rack rate at the GC, which what a nice hotel in Hawaii goes for.

Yeah it's going to be high. I think it will be significantly higher than BLT or GCV. But the resort is going to have to be really nice and the customer service is going to have to be excellent to justify the Point chart.

I'm not convinced it'll be as high as many think. I suspect you can look at BLT and get a comparison. Likely 2 or 3 view types and maybe 3 seasons with the lowest being Dream.

I agree 100%. With over 400 rooms, there will be availability most times of the year. Especailly in the early years. Also, Since there really won't be a "low" season like in Disney, the point totals can be moderately high since peak season is longer. Spreading the points over a long peak season. Out of all the Westin Timeshares, only Hawaii is peak season all year long.....no low seasons.

Thanks for all the replys!! I'm gonna make it happen one way or another. We just may not have a vacation for the year before or the year after but i guess i'll see when it gets closer.

I'm enjoying making my points count right now and stretching them out to 2 visits at least per year (in studios for now). So i know that it will suck me dry but will be worth it!:thumbsup2

I'll jump on the bandwagon with Dean and T&R, too. DVC is putting around 450 units in Hawaii which makes it on par with AKV Kidani + Jambo. There will be popular periods and views, but for the most part it should be readily available at 7 months.

As time goes on I think we'll see far more posters fearful that people will buy into Hawaii just to book WDW resorts at 7 months.

I hadn't thought about that aspect.

I wonder if DVC would make Hawaii points "different" from the DVC points for other properties. Perhaps there would be additonal restrictions on using Hawaii points at WDW or perhaps they wouldn't be valid in Florida at all.

That's another topic which seems to come up every time. I know it was heavily debated as BLT grew nearer, and probably for AKV and VGC as well. The only thing we know for certain is that the speculation has proven false thus far.

Honestly I don't see any real advantage to DVC creating a separate system. Disney really wants to be able to market DVC as more than just theme parks. You'll see a lot of people making comments to the extent of "I want to buy DVC but my spouse won't agree because he/she wants to be able to travel elsewhere." Hawaii could go a long way toward placating those folks.

I think DVC is now large enough that non-owner demand for Hawaii will do a good job of filling the resort. Due to the size there will be a decent amount of 7-month availability, but those rooms will mostly fill up over time.

That's my personal opinion, but over the next two years you can bet there will be a lot of threads arguing both sides (difficulty booking Hawaii as non-owner vs. difficulty booking WDW resorts due to Hawaii owners using points there.)

I do not see this being an issue of impacting WDW. My guess is that only 30% of the DVC Hawaii will be East Coast owners. The rest will be West Coast, Canada and Japan. Japanese love Hawaii and love Disney.

Now if the resort to be built in DC has a DVC component, which I think it will, that will have more impact on WDW then Hawaii DVC.

I agree. I am a California resident. Hawaii is a major destination for west coast folks (the way the Caribbean is for East Coasters) In fact, Californians own more Hawiian Timeshares than the rest of the US combined according to a recent timeshare trade publication.

It really doesn't matter from HI's standpoint and it only matters for WDW if the demand for the HI resort is less than the norm for the higher demand resorts. If it is less, as it is for SSR for example, then there will be excess points floating around at the 7 month window. It will not affect home resort reservations further because SSR and other factors have already driven most members inside the home resort window that can possibly reserve during that time. But it could affect the chances of success at the 7 month window and after. We'll see but the only reason for DVC to create a separate class would be if they thought they could make more money some how. I hope it sells well so maybe there will be other options going forward but I fear it will be less than stellar unless DVD becomes more aggressive in sales than in the past.

The other direction is also an issue, will the demand for HI be high enough to draw a lot of points and thus be difficult to get and my guess is NO due to distance, size and air fare costs.

I don't have any speculation since we're not members yet BUT I wanted to say it will be our 20th anniversary in 2012 as well and we were also planning on Hawaii for a special gift. Happy Anniversary!
