DVC Guides

Well, because I don't want him to feel left out, Gib McCain is our guide and he's great! We bought at OKW with him, then did two add-ons at OKW. We're on the waitlist for the third and felt really good about Gib when he told me about MB at the other resorts and the deal at SSR, but then didn't make a fuss when we decided to just waitlist for OKW (which I'm still not sure about!).

I know he was mentioned on the thread about getting $100 to do a DVC tour as well.

I am new to this forum but my guide is Susan Shell. I find her to be pushy at times. I have been dvc member since 95 and I owned at okw. I looking to add on points soon. When a family member was on vacation in July she wanted him to change the date so she could give the tour. In the end he couldn't go because he was leaving the day she wanted to schedule. I was upset because anyone could given the tour. It wasn't as if he had requested her she must somehow found out that I was his relative that owned at okw. I told her next time to stay out of it that there was no need for her to intervene.
Anyway I guess i will give her one more chance

Our guide is also Byron Helgeson. He was very knowledgeable and no pressure at all. Took us almost 10 months to decide, and he let us get there in our own time.

I couldn't agree more.

One other point, up to this point (with one exception) I see a trend here--the guides are not pushy, they let people take their time, they are well informed about DVC, and overall they are easy to work with.

I think this is pretty unusual but also I think it shows that Disney management has set the tone, they've trained the guides well, and it shows every time I see a thread where someone is talking about their guide(s).

The way WDW is managed and the overall organizational culture they've created and sustained is the biggest reason I love WDW in general and DVC specifically. They've made it a place I love to go, over and over again.

I agree most of the guides are not pushy the one who I purchase from Laurie was great. She answered all my questions and let me make my own decision. When I went on vacation in HHI with non dvc members they loved it so much they went on a tour. Susan was that guide and she looked up my name and told me that my orignal guide had move on a that she will now be my guide.

Whenever I call to ask questions the DG on the phones are always helpful.

We just bought in August and our guide was Roland. He was GREAT, he was very friendly and very no -pressure. I told him that I had some DVC knowledge already so he asked what I knew, I told him and then he joked around and said...you want to fill in for me this afternoon? lol.

This was the second time we took the tour. Last time was the year before and we weren't financially ready to buy. Our guide then was very in your face and high pressure which I found to be the exact opposite to what the kiosk man described. He kept telling us..well you can finance it with MB and if you're going to keep coming down like you do you're wasting your money, this is a good deal..blah, blah, blah...I felt like we were trapped in the little room. So this trip we knew we wanted to buy and just walked up to the Boardwalk kiosk and then went right over for the tour. We lucked out and got Roland who like I said before was wonderful.

Also, is it difficult to book 2BR at the 7 month window?

Thanks.

As mentioned, depends on the time of the year. If my sleep deprived brain is right, the order room types tend to be requested is something like this:

1) Grand Villas (not enough, go quickly)
2) Studios (lowpoints)
3) 1-BR's
4) 2-BR's

Of course, its been a while so this may have changed. I'm sure someone will correct my brain if it's wrong. :)

My Guide Bruce Douglas out of a sales guide scale out of 10 I would give him a 11. He is definently a gem in the DVC sales guide family.

...another vote for Randy Kruger. As nice as they come, and zero pressure.

I give another vote for Byron Helgeson. He was very helpful and answered all my questions. In fact, I have never actually meet him yet because I did everything on the phone. We are going to VWL in Dec. so I hope to be able to meet him then.

Randy Kruger went through months of awnsering our questions, giving us mathmatical figures, and remained pressure free and patient. Dealing with Randy was like getting advice from a trusted friend.
Through our tour of add ons he actually recommended that we did not buy in at certain times and wait more opportune time periods.
What a super guy!!
