Hi, I was wondering if a person is allowed to switch guides when thinking of a new purchase? I am thinking of buying Aulani, and was contacted in November by a guide specifically in Hawaii. But I'm wondering if I should be contacting this guide or should I be contacting my original guide from my purchase of SSR? This guide has never contacted me specifically about any new properties (perhaps she's not allowed, I don't know).

Thanks! I got bit by Addonitis unfortunately! (or fortunately)

You only have 1 guide at a time. So your original guide is your guide unless you ask to have it changed to someone else, or they leave DVC, or DVC chooses to switch people around.

You should call your guide about add-ons - they could tell you if there's anything different about guides and Aulani.

Your first Guide is your Guide unless Disney or you make a change. Who's name is on the marketing mailings that you receive online and in the mail, Guide 1 or Guide 2?

Your Guide is just a sales person so I go with who can get me the best price when I buy direct, that's why we are on our third Guide. :goodvibes

Good question! This has kind of been an issue for us too. My guide magically disapeared and we were guideless for a very long time. (found out later she retired) When friends purchased, the guide they were speaking with said he would be our guide too- if it was ok with us. Being put on the spot we said ok but my husband is throwing a fit about it now. He deals much better with women- older women than men. sigh.

Our guide retired we loved him I do not like the new assigned one he is pushy and not at all personable. I may call to ask for a change did not know I could if we purchase again would not enjoy dealing with him on the other hand love the timeshare store and may purchase resale.

You can always change your guide for what ever reason you feel is valid. Just call Member Services and ask to have your guide changed. Make sure to tell them not to connect you to your present guide. They have been known to do this... Your guide is your salesman, not friend or classmate or long lost relative you do not need to be loyal if they have not been or your don't feel it is appropriate... Our original guide moved on in DVC and we were assigned a new one. Have yet to meet him and when we were considering adding on last month we talked to somebody else. Our assigned one was unavailable. With the changes in the way Disney views resale points vs direct points you need to consider if you absolutely need direct points. If you plan to never use the removed benefits then resale may be better for you. In our case we will never use the removed benefits. So now, we would not even considering adding on with Disney... Good luck

Shortly after our first purchase, we asked for and received a new Guide. We definitely were not feeling the magic with our first Guide, and when some inconsistencies became apparent between reality and what she had told us during her pitch, we knew we would not be happy relying on her for anything at all! When I called and asked for a new Guide, I asked to speak with a manager in Member Satisfaction and I explained to her exactly what upset me with our first Guide. I was such a Disney fanatic and a bit naive back then... believing that if someone was "guiding" me through the magic, it should feel magical... and this is exactly what I said to the manager. She then told me that she had the perfect Guide for me, and she was right.

Our new Guide is fabulous! She sends us personal notes from time to time, and has called occasionally... to wish us Happy New Year, for instance. She's not pushy, but does keep us informed about new offerings. Most recently, she sent me a surprise package of DVC pins... out of the blue! It was perfect timing, because the package arrived on the same day we had to cancel our MLK trip due to weather problems. It was like a little package of Disney magic to cheer me up! I know lots of folks here say your Guide is just a salesperson there to make money, and for many this is true. However, there are some Guides out there who are honestly as enthusiastic about Disney as we are, who are full of knowledge and willing to share it, who are happy to help you even if it's not to make a sale, and who treat you more like a friend than a customer. If you're lucky, you'll get assigned to a Guide like that. We're among the fortunate who has one!

Here's hoping you find a Guide who treats you as well! pixiedust:
