DVC guides spreading rumors?

I'm not sure I agree that SSR is selling like hotcakes. Not unless they've been sitting off the stove for 10-15 minutes, LOL. We'll see how long it takes to sell out the entire resort, that will be the measure. Remember that VWL and BCV both took less than 18 months to sell out and they overlapped availability as well as extra points during that time at OKW and BWV. Not to mention VB and HH still selling.

timC, EP was announced before SSR and they are similar set ups in many ways. I could see another attached resort like at CR but I just can't see another non destination DVC resort like OKW and SSR.

As for 1 BR sleep 6 or two queens in the master, that will NEVER happen. While I see the appeal for a small minority, it is not c/w general timeshare info. And they would never have a small number of rooms that different. Besides, DVD wants you to buy more points for a 2 BR if you need more room.

no they added 4 building - and yes these building are bigger and the Polyn was double in size or almost.

the wings were added at the Cont when the Polyn added the other building - and no the wings were not originial - either was the convention center.....If you don't believe me ask the historian that the Disney magazine uses....

You may want to check the info on Tikiman's site.

The poly opened in 1971 with 8 longhouses- a total of 492 rooms. Oahu (now called Tokelau) was added in 1978- bringing the total to over 600 rooms and two more longhouses, Pago Pago and Moorea (now called Rupa Nui and Tahiti) were added in 1985. Three buildings (longhouses) have been added since 1971, bring the total number of rooms to 847. (Stats courtesy of Tikiman)

Here is a link to an aerial photo (thanks to Steve Seifert - better known as Tikiman) from 1970- showing a preopening photo of the MK/monorail area. The photo clearly shows the garden wings of the Contemporary- in place long before the Oct, 1971 opening. The Convention Center was a later addition though.

Enjoy!

As usual, I agree with Shan. Our family would LOVE a bedroom with 2 queens. I just made reservations for a 2 bedroom at the Wilderness Lodge for March. Totally forgot that the 2nd bedroom will have the stinking pullout couch -- I have spent so much time at OKW that I am clueless about the other resorts... So despite shelling out all those points, I will probably be on a pullout couch (the kids fight and we separate them part of the time). Bummer. Whether in a studio or as part of a larger unit, we'd LOVE 2 beds in one of the bedrooms!

Shan, when you and hubby stay at OKW the bus to the MK will go right by the entrance to Eagle Pines Golf Course. We paid close attention on our June trip because there is an alligator there! He would be sunning himself on a rise near the water around the entrance. We got a kick out of looking for him and saw him repeatedly. So if they DO build Eagle Pines DVC, there may be a "mascot."

...

All Studios at OKW have 2 queens (but, no sleep sofa).

All dedicated 2BR's at HH, VB, VWL, OKW and SSR have 2 queens in the second bedroom. Some dedicated 2BR's at BCV have 2 queens in the second BR.

Enjoy!

We'd love to have 2 queens (NOT DOUBLES!) in the 1BR as well. With small kids, we just don't need a whole extra room...just better sleeping arrangements.

spiceycat, I hate to disagree with you, but Doc is right (professional courtesy among DIS physicians ;) ). As a youngster, I stayed in the CR Tower over Easter of 1973 and in the North Wing in summer of 1974.

Ob. DVC: The rumours about the North Wing being converted to DVC were around even back when I stayed there in '74 ....

Doc, that is what I thought. But when I called, the Member Services guy INSISTED there were no 2nd-bedrooms with the 2 beds! I wanted to request this but he said NO... I am going to call back again. I knew that Beach Club had recently installed the 2nd queens... but honestly could not be positive about the Lodge as I have always been in a studio there.

Thanks.

Colleen

Count us in, too. 2 beds (queens are always better!) would help out the family's sleeping arrangements.

Colleen...rather than trying to convince the MS people that you're right, just ask for a dedicated 2BR at VWL and you'll automatically get those two queen beds in the second bedroom!

Unless of course that he/she INSISTS that there are no dedicated 2BR's there! In that case, you can only hang up and try, try again! :p

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

I called back today and the MS person who helped me said we were booked into a dedicated 2-bedroom. I am now dreaming of a nice comfy bed instead of the evil, back-breaking sleeper sofa! Thanks all!

We have found that the kids LOVE staying on the pull out sofa when we vacation in a one bedroom. It's like camping out to them. We get a nice king bed, which we do not have at home and is something I look forward to each trip, and the kids have a great time "camping".

I have heard from other CM's, not DVC guides, that the lower buildings at CR will be converted into DVC units in 2005. And that after that, the Eagle Pines project will move forward.

I do believe that the CR wings are prime locations for DVC due to the existing infastructure (which fits the strategy of DVC's last 3 projects) but 2005 seems way too early. If that starts, even jsut the building of it in 2005, it will throw the brakes on sales at SSR. I just can't see that happening.

DVC could easily cater to different financial situations in order to sell both at the same time. I could see CR going up while they're selling SSR IF they raise the price for points again then offer big discounts for SSR and no discounts for CR. I think both would sell relatively well in that case.

When we bought OKW, we would like to have spent more for BWV. But we were young and were really stretching our dollars to buy as it was so we went with the cheapest option. We also liked the idea of a resort away from the "hustle and bustle." Buyers in this situation would go for the big discount at SSR.

However, NOW I have the spare cash to buy a 50-point DREAM add-on and am just waiting for the right new resort (because we want the longer contract) -- and I want that new add-on to be in the middle of the action. CR would be it! And buyers in my current situation, with the cash to spare, would probably go for the higher prices of CR to be on the monorail and walking distance to MK.

okay I apology to everyone - I even found old picture dating back to the late 70's early 80's with the wings there...

oh boy I was just WRONG!!!

sorry about that!

I heard that WDW is starting to rehab the South wings - anyone heard this - how about the north wings any work going on there?

if so - you can probably forget the DVC CR for the near future.....

darn it!

:o :(
