DVC guides spreading rumors?

While at SSR earlier this month, a guide, not mine, inferred that the next DVC venture would be on the monorail! I offered that I had heard the Poly would be torn down becuase it is so dated, andhe said "You did not hear that from me", but just "might be". Has anyone speculated on this possibity

I am not a salesperson so I do not understand when the guides tell rumors. I don't have a problem with rumors, I just don't see how it helps them.

If I was looking at SSR and the guide tells me that CR or Poly will be next, then I would hold out for the next one instead of SSR. I thought selling SSR is their only consern, not what might be in the future.

Let me know if I am missing something on how to make a sale.

I don't think of it as a sales tactic.

I think most of the guides (like most of us) are DVC fanatics--they "share" rumors for the same reasons we do on the DIS--fun? wishful thinking?

If the Contemporary DVC rumor becomes reality, I know our guide will be one of the first to purchase (and we won't be far behind)

I get the impression they are trying to convey the message that DVC does not stop at SSR... there will be new resorts to come... future value for your SSR points to come.

I think this type of rumor helps sales. As a prospective buyer, if I thought SSR was going to be the last resort, I might be concerned about the future of DVC.

From the way it was described, the guide didn't offer up the rumor, the member did and the guide kind of "played along". I don't think that is the same as a guide spreading a rumor.

My DVC guide has never told me any untruths. Should the next DVC be the monorail I presume it would be the site next to the Contemporary. Bearing in mind the limited space, It would probably not be as nice as BCV or SSR. Just iMHO:D

Sorry...but I think guides tend to be just like used-car salesmen and will tell you just about anything you want to hear without actually confirming a word of it. :D

Richy is that you? :teeth:

Disney has recently put a lot of $$$ into renovating the long-houses at the Poly one by one as well as a total pool rehab. CR DVC seems more likely. As far as the guides go, I agree with used car salesman theory (with no offense to those folks!) They just want to keep interest up IMO.

I agree with Lacee. The Poly is pristine despite it's age and it has become like an antique that people treasure. Part of it's appeal (at least for me!) is that it looks virtually the same as when it opened. Too many people, myself included, would go postal of they bulldozed it. Flattening things and starting over is not their style, at least at the resorts.

My guide swears WE hereon the Boards often know more than she does. I don't think rumors are a selling tactic, unless generally speaking. DVC talk of any kind thrills me. When I meet another member it's tons fo fun to share memories and views. This gets me all tanked up about DVC and the natural progression of this seems to be me thinking "Boy, I'd love to add on." No matter how many points we own, there are always more to add, and members are a proven market. So I think any talk of DVC, speculation included, is not only fun but good business.

What happened to Eagle Pines? Is it definitely scrapped?

I would be extremely surprised to see the Poly torn down. This resort has just had some major rehabs performed. The CR on the other hand seems to be the perfect candidate for a DVC addition.

Disney has been very much looking at a resort on the Eagle/Osprey courses so they can offer a golf school during peak periods. I have had the golf card for many years now and have participated in a focus group and a paper survey on golf school interest. Both of these happened well after DI petered out, so I'm sure Disney is trying to figure out how to sustain a golf school long term like Marriott does with the Faldo school.

Interesting. Golf would be an interesting long term attraction. Certainly has been part of the WDW TV campaign recently.

Not a golfer, so not sure if this makes sense, but since the LVB Clubhouse is right at SSR, couldn't they integrate a "golf school" facility/package into Phase III of SSR?

Good point, that would certainly be easier than a new resort. Probably makes Eagle Pines a casualty.

Bite your tongue!!!! I love the Eagle Pines concept. Loved the Misner architecture.

We only go to the parks about half of our trips to WDW. The other half are golfing trips, etc. where we never set foot in the parks. We're going to WDW in March for spring training games and golf. So, for us Eagle Pines would be perfect every other trip. DVC, are your listening???

I know Disney does'n like to build off site, but what about the one on the moon that is floating around. Will it be the next one?;) ;)

We're not big golfers, but I love the architecture in the drawings as well. If they build it, hopefully it will have some other family amenities like a fabulous pool and kid friendly restaurants. If the rooms are decent sized (I'd prefer something larger than the standard SSR/BCV/BWV/VWL rooms) and the point values are decent...I could see us spending a good number of non park trips there.

Location, location, location!
A new DVC resort on the monorail route would probably generate more theme park visitors than a more remote location like Eagle Pines.

Sorry but I suspect the SSR 600 units put the last nail in the EP coffin and the Phase 3 lowered it into the ground.
