I was wondering if anyone could educate me about the golf membership that is available through DVC. I know there are golf discounts but I can't find a lot of information about it. I think I can talk my husband into buying points, if he knows he can get reduced golf rates each time we go. Can someone fill me in about the "in's and out's" of the golf? Thanks in advance :)

The deal on golf is currently quite an attractive one, but that hasn't always been the case and it's not guaranteed the current offering will be continued ( or if any deal at all will be offered). For that reason to try and talk your DH into purchasing on the back of a "discount" that could be withdrawn at any time would seem to be opening yourself up for problems in the future if the purchase doesn't end up to be as you and he are hoping.

That goes for all the "extra perks" that DVC offers, all the programs and offering are subject to change and or cancellation. For deciding to buy in you really need to look closely at what is actually offered and guaranteed in your contract, anything that is extra to that and works for you in the short term should be considered a bonus. While I'm certain Disney will continue to offer discounts, deals and extra perks for DVC owners both as incentives to spend money on WDW and as alternate ways to use their points you shouldn't count on what they are offering to be of value to you as an individual.

I understand your reply. As with any large purchase many things are taken into consideration. I have many considerations that I have not posted about. I would like to know the "attractive incentives" understanding that they are not guarenteed. Is there anyonw out there who can point me in the direction of the information or post it for me? Thanks

There is information on this available on the "members only" part of the DVC web site, but since you're not a member yet, I guess that won't help you. :(

Truthfully, I'd contact a DVC guide (they really aren't high pressure) and tell him or her that you're interested in DVC, but you think having the information on the golf discounts might help you make the decision. You'll probably be able to get the most up-to-date information that way.

And if you decide it's not for you right now, just tell the guide and they will leave you alone.

Here is a great link for a wealth of information about the WDW golf courses:

Well to answer your question:
The DVC golf badge costs $85 and is good for one year. It entitles the member to bring 3 other guests to make a foursome all at the discounted rate. Here are the rates:
10/1 - 1/14 $50/person/round
1/15-4/19 $95
4/20 - 9/30 $35
includes cart and green fee and range balls, no tee times before 10 am
regular rates at the courses range from $109-$144/person/round
so you can see that it pays for itself in one round: 50 x 4 = $200 + 85 = $285, $129 (rate at Eagle Pines)x 4 = $516.00.

I really appreciate you taking the time to send that information. I did go on the members board and there was not a lot of information and I couldn't find alot of info in my guidebook. (I am presently a cardmember but my husband is not and I am looking at an add-on to put his name on) Thanks agaiin.

I encourage you to mention this little perk to your DH, even though I know it's not guaranteed, it is definitely offered through the end of the summer 2003. That was a major plus for DH here, I think his middle name is "golf". If yours is, make your first DVC trip to OKW, let him play LBV a couple times, and he'll be hooked for sure! Mine is actually watching WDW Vacation Planning Videos with me now.

Some clarification:

1. Actual price of annual DVC golf card is about $91 after tax. You buy at any of the pro shops the first time you show up to play. Card is actually usually good for a little more than a year as it goes to the end of the month a year after you purchase it -- suppose you buy it October 4, 2002; it is good until October 31, 2003. Thus if you go at same time each year it is possible to use the same annual card for two trips a year apart.

2. You get in for rounds after 10 and up to three guests come with you who also get discounts.

3. Key to discount is to play enough rounds so that actual discounts received are greater than the price of that annual card. As noted above discount price from Oct to Jan is $50. Regular prices then are $90 to $120 depending on course (Osprey is highest). Thus at that time of year you need to play 3 rounds (or one round with 3 people) so that discounts overcome price of the DVC golf card. At the prime Jan to April time, the discount price is $95, while regular prices are $140 to $160, thus 2 to three rounds make up for the price of the card. In summer, May to Sep, discount price is $35 but regular after 10 a.m. prices that time of year are only $45 to $60, so you need to play 4, 5 or even more rounds to make up for DVC golf card price.

4. You should also be aware that you can get 20% discounts with an annual pass or Disney Club card and that can be used for those prime before 10 a.m. times and there is no need to buy another golf card.

You can have your husband contact me I'll tell him the golf is really great. In May we made a Golf only trip just the guys and I hate to admit it but it was one of the best trips to WDW ever. We are planning another one in November (just 3 weeks away). We usually go Sun-Tue, 2 nights at OKW 2 Bedroom. Our next trip we will be in a GV for just 4 guys. We had an earlier trip planned, but we are all Emergency Managers or responders for our community and TS Isidore and Hurricane Lili changed our plans and the only thing available was a GV, but it will do!

We play golf all day and then get a great meal with plenty of wine, them on to the beach club to sit out relax in the late evening listening to sounds of the Boardwalk. I believe I had freinds before DVC but now its a sure thing since I charge them $0! Actually I invite members of my Emergency Staff, its a great way to build a good team.

In fact we had such a good time, that some fellow rotary members bought site unseen just because of what everyone said about how nice DVC and OKW was. They are there right now playing and watching the tournement!

Its 2:00AM, so I will skip the editing. Good Luck... He will not be sorry if he likes GOLF!
