Am I correct in thinking that we get the Memory Maker as a perk with our Gold AP? If so, do we have to do anything on MDE to "activate" it for our trip? Or will the pictures just "magically" appear. This trip is with our DGDs, so we want to make sure to have it done right.

It will “show up” in your MDE once you have/link your AP. Any current PhotoPass photos will “lose” their watermark after that point as well.

Yes, as @Spartan86 said, as soon as your AP is linked in MDE all your PhotoPass pics taken in the previous 365 days will magically appear in your PhotoPass account, without watermarks!

No, but sort of.

Memory Maker is a product that Disney sells which is valid for a defined period of time (30-45 days). PhotoPass is the system. You get unlimited PhotoPass downloads for the duration of your annual pass.

Thanks but now I'm REALLY confused. What is the thing where you get a Disney photographer to take pictures (like at a character M&G), scan your band, then the picture shows up on MDE and you can get it?

As an AP holder, you get unlimited PhotoPass (the “thing” you describe ) downloads for the duration of your AP. As discussed above older photos (1 year I think) will show up too. Memory Maker is largely the same thing but sold to a non AP holder coming for say a 6 night stay. They however will only have access to their photos for a limited time following their stay.
