Hi all,

We were thinking about buying founder points at the GF-DVC. Does anybody have a feeling when they would be available? We will be at BLT (our home resort) in two weeks so we will ask our guide but wanted to get the scuttlebutt before we get there... If there is any....

thanks (have a good holiday to those in the US) :)

We spoke to a guide last week (ours was on a cruise) and he told us that they would not be selling GF DVC until 2013 and the only indication of price was that BLT is now currently selling for $160 pp. I'm sure incentives will be attractive at first.

Based on past resort sales and projected opening time, late 2012 to early 2013 sounds about right. Variables are how far they are along on construction and how sales for other WDW properties send. For price I'm guessing one price increase before sales start and another shortly after.

I would wait and not buy "founder" points. Historically they are more expensive and DVD reduces the price of the resort after the Founders sell out.

Really? I was under the impression that the founders at BLT paid less then $70 pp. I know they could take a percentage reduction or get the tile on the fountain. I am glad i asked. We have made the mental commitment that we want to buy in at the GF but need to find out how the founders/first point availability works. Thanks to all those who responded. Any who were founders did you also find the points went down after you bought?

thanks

We are Founders at AKV.

My thought is that Disney wants to re-coup the cost of the Founder offering, (putting your name on something and sending you a wall hanging). They also know that people want to be the first so they bump the price. When sales slow, they drop the price and offer some other "deal" to get sales up again.

When I say drop the price, I mean that they offer a bigger discount or a cruise, or developer points, or what ever they feel will increase sales.

The actual purchase price is what you pay after incentives. If they offer a cruise, I take the cost of the cruise, (if we want a cruise) and subtract it from the point price to get a adjusted cost.

Pricing with Disney is a big game and they are very good at it.

I don't think DVC has ever reduced the actual listed cost of points. They do have incentives at times but often early with new resort offerings as well, c/w your follow up post. DVC has a history of a price increase a month or 2 after a new resort starts selling. When you look at the value of losing 2-3 years by waiting, it's not going to be much if any cheaper to wait unless you're willing to wait until sufficient numbers of resales hit the market.

Were going to be there in 2weeks and swing by and talk to our guide (and get some ice cream....) and we will ask him to let us know when the public offering of points (i.e. non-founders points) become available. I am sure we will hear about it here long before he does but i want to pull him back into the loop. Thanks to you three for the help.
