I'm single and my dad is widowed. We are also travel buddies. We started with 200 pts but added on twice to get to 430. That gives us enough to do 4 weeks in a studio, 2 weeks in a 1bedroom, or 1 week in a 2bedroom (with guests) and a week in a studio.
For singles/couples, I like that with DVC you can maximize your points to get longer stays in a studio. You end up getting a 1bedroom just to have that in-room laundry handy. Plus for 1 person, a 1bedroom feels like a home.
DVC makes sense for anyone who likes to visit Disney a lot and is not into the whole park commando/budget value stays. Timeshares in general work for anyone who likes to go on vacations for a week or two a year and likes all the comforts of home. Between my DVC and Marriott ownership, I'm able to travel pretty much anywhere in the world without having to fret overmuch about costs. I know if I was booking that 5 star hotel room in London last year for cash ($8000), I probably wouldn't have gone.
