DVC for the Single Guy?

Here's another single gal...I'm 31 and bought last year. Loved it so much did an add-on soon after I bought the initial contract (re-sell). If you like traveling and can afford it you will love it!

I'm recently married but I wish I would have bought DVC when I was single... then I wouldn't have to try to convince my husband into it! :lmao:

Seriously though.. I think it's a great idea if you love Disney or just travel in general. Good luck! :thumbsup2

I'm single and have been a member since 1996. I used points a couple of times for DL but other than that have always used them for WDW. I usually go during the off-peak times, never Christmas, Easter or Spring Break. Usually for F & W in October or November. Sometimes I take my Mom with me. Other times a friend I made at the WDAC conventions joins me. We work it out by her paying for a rental car or buying me a few meals. I can't be bothered trying to figure out how much to charge. I figure I'm taking the trip anyway so there is room available for another person. Sometimes it's a last minute thing like the Preview for Expedition Everest a couple of years ago. Or an extra Star Wars Weekend (but now that they keep starting them later in the year I've been skipping them, too hot in June for me).

I REALLY appreciate everyone's contributions to the thread... seems there are more single DVCers than I thought! :)

Now another question: how many points do you have? Gross round numbers are fine... I'm just looking for ballparks. 50ish? 90-110? Over 150? I thought I wanted about 50 but now I'm thinking 100ish. I don't think I want the full Disney-required-starter 160.

If you love WDW and DVC, who cares if you are single. Take friends or go alone. I find people very friendly while at WDW! I am not single but I am they type of personality that does many things independent of my DH. I go travel for business by myself all the time and go to movies, museums, etc. by myself if I can't find someone to go with me. I am not an only child by my two sisters were 8 and 9 years older than me so I felt like I was an only child for most of my childhood. Perhaps there is something the that theory!

No, for all the eligible male DVC members out there, I have 5 single intelligent gorgeous nieces who also love WDW, if interested!

I was going to do the minimum buy in initially but went with the recommended 220 at OKW. BWV was new at the time & I would have had to go back to FL to purchase as it wasn't registered in NY at the time. I later added 100 points at BWV. I am patiently waiting for GCV at DL for my next add-on but I'm close to giving in & adding on elswhere. So as of now I have 320 points that I only use for Studio accomodations unless they aren't available when I need them.

DH and I have 100 points and its perfect!

I think that would be good for a single too!

By the way, if I were single, I think a weekend at Walt Disney World would make the most unbelievable date.

DVC and the cheap airfare that comes out every so often would make that possible!

I am a single 38 year old guy and I own 255 BWV points. I would like another 100 or so points.

I like solo trips but don't seem able to take one as often as I would like. I try and take the family one week and I love going with the guys for a week too.

Depending on who's going determines the villa size.

I think for one of my trips next year , I'm not letting anyone now I am going !!! <G>

I've been pondering the same question (whether to purchase as a single...not the guy part!). Thanks for the thread.

I'm a single female DVC owner in the same age range as the OP. I have 320pts which is perfect for me. The size room I get depends on who is going with me. For a solo trip, I usually do a studio. I have not regretted buying DVC for a second.

For a solo trip, you cannot beat Disney.

I'm borrowed on my 2009 BWV points to get the studio for 2 weeks during F & W this year. Had to take the preferred because standard wasn't available. Next year will have to stay elsewhere during F & W because there aren't enough points left on my BWV contract. I hate having to move between resorts.

definitely single.

come visit us on the solo/couple board.

there are several single and couples who own DVC.

brought back in 1993 started with 190 points got up to 450 - now at 350.

for my solo or even with one other person do the studios.

3 or more - definitely do the 1 or 2 bedroom - I need my privacy!!!

Where is the single/couples board? It is just my husband and myself, all his kids are grown. We just passed ROFR for a contract at OKW. Would like to converse with other DVC couples. We don't believe that Disney is only for families with kids. We have a great time there with just the 2 of us.

Not only am I a single DVC owner, I also live in Orlando and still LOVE my membership. I will add that I didn't live here when I bought - I ended up moving here unexpectedly just a couple months after buying. I bought the then minimum of 150 points and wish I had more but finacially it just isn't a good time for me to add on.

I mostly get studios but I did splurge for a 2BR at Vero in September.

My initial purchase was for 180 points and I added on another 70 a year later. The amount allows for at least two vacations a year but I have thought about purchasing more so I have more flexibility in going to some non-DVC locations.

The number of points you'll need will depend on your needs. Off season DVC only can mean less points but if you're interested in the Adventures by Disney and international travel, you may need more.

Good luck!!

I'm single and I've owned at DVC for several years.

I'm single and my dad is widowed. We are also travel buddies. We started with 200 pts but added on twice to get to 430. That gives us enough to do 4 weeks in a studio, 2 weeks in a 1bedroom, or 1 week in a 2bedroom (with guests) and a week in a studio.

For singles/couples, I like that with DVC you can maximize your points to get longer stays in a studio. You end up getting a 1bedroom just to have that in-room laundry handy. Plus for 1 person, a 1bedroom feels like a home.

DVC makes sense for anyone who likes to visit Disney a lot and is not into the whole park commando/budget value stays. Timeshares in general work for anyone who likes to go on vacations for a week or two a year and likes all the comforts of home. Between my DVC and Marriott ownership, I'm able to travel pretty much anywhere in the world without having to fret overmuch about costs. I know if I was booking that 5 star hotel room in London last year for cash ($8000), I probably wouldn't have gone.

I'm single (female) and bought last year when I was there for a business trip. LOVE when the company pays for a free trip to WDW.

I used my developer points for a cruise - going in October. I bought the minimum 160 at Animal Kingdom. I'll see how these work out for me but I'd like to buy into Hawaii, depending on the cost I may sell some of these points and buy more there.

I can't wait for Christmas 2009 - I'm banking my 2008 points and will probably borrow some for 2010 - but I'm hoping to get a Grand Villa for five nights in early december for an extended family trip.
