DVC experts...how long will SSR promotion last?

We were torn between buying at SSR with the special promotion our guide discussed with us ($10 off per point or free vacation) OR buying an OKW resale. We decided to go for the resale at OKW since that is our favorite Disney resort :).

Anyway, I won't go into all the ROFR details ;) as we know what's happening there. But my question is, what is your best guess at how long this promotion is going to last at SSR? We are scheduled for a tour of the property on Oct. 31st but our guide said not to count on the promotion being available at that time.

IF Disney exercises their ROFR it may be too late to grab the special promotion for SSR. What do you guys think?

This process is soooo new to us and now it has all become a little convoluted over the past few days.

I think the $10 off option will be around for awhile (maybe on and off), but the option for a free vacation?...that, I am not so sure of. DVC has to have sufficient property that they own, or is returned to them due to members not banking, being caught up on dues or payments, etc, to give those rooms out to people. The $10 off could be endless as long as they want to (or, feel the need to) take that hit...the rooms are not endless.

But, here's my bet. DVC will offer substansial savings until construction has caught up with sales, and they can offer that you can stay on your points immediately. To sell you into a phase that is not yet available, is similar (albeit, better because you are not paying dues or mortgage yet) to selling you a stripped contract. DVC is not too happy about doing that.

I think that is why "sold out" resorts just went up. I think DVC wants to be able to buy back more, and hold them in inventory to also sell them to "new members" as more of a "You can buy at SSR and begin to use it next year, or you can buy at OKW and use it now". I think DVC may feel that they are actually "losing" money on SSR when they have to offer special promotions because they are "pre-selling" to new members instead of "selling".

Others may disagree, but my guide was "hinting" at this when we spoke, and it seems to make a lot of sense based on Disney's past actions. Plus, as tjkraz posted on another thread, with DVC being under new leadership, new processes are being tried to see what makes money and what offers new services to members (obviously, without costing DVC too much money).

Anyway...I know that was long...but, that is my 2 cents on the issue.

Good luck on your resale!!!

Thanks for the info Beca! I'm glad to hear that you think the $10 discount option will be around. That is what we would have chosen anyway. Hope you're right "just in case" we lose our OKW resale.

I figure...whatever happens is meant to be. :)

Good luck with your resale!!!

Remember with the $10 pp you give up your first years points AND pay some of the maint fees on them. So it's not an off the top reduction in price. that program has been around for a number of years in one form or another.
