Just got a Member Services e-mail about system changes that are coming soon.

Here's what one paragraph said:

"Note that, effective Oct. 14, the new system will require a one-night room and tax deposit for cash reservations, and payment for the Disney Dining Plan will be required at the time it's added to a reservation. (As a reminder, Members may add the Disney Dining Plan to their reservation as many as 48 hours prior to their check-in date.)"

Huh? If we are using points, are we excluded from the one-night room deposit? Seems like we would be, but also seemed like a weird statement to be included in a DVC Members e-mail.
Anyone know more about this?

The one night deposit refers to cash reservations booked through MS, not points. That is consistent with what CRO takes for a deposit when booking a room only reservation. Interesting that the date of the DDP change is October 14. Good thing I already added the DDP to my April ressie...

That makes sense, I was just a little confused since it was on a DVC-specific e-mail.

Thanks!

Here is the compete text: (just got the email myself)

Member Services to modify hours during system installation

As announced in the latest edition of Disney Files Magazine, Disney Vacation Club® Member Services is enhancing its booking system this fall.

The enhancements are designed to give Members greater flexibility with their reservations, provide e-mail confirmations for Members and their Guests, and more. The changes also lay the ground work for the eventual introduction of online booking for Disney Vacation Club Resorts.

The first phase of the launch is slated to take place on Oct. 14. Please note that Member Services is scheduled to close from 3 p.m. Eastern on Oct. 12 until 9 a.m. Eastern on Oct. 14 to accommodate the implementation and testing of the new system. The self-service functionality on DVCMember.com also will be unavailable during this period. This downtime is necessary to facilitate a smooth booking process for Members when the new system launches.

As subsequent phases of system enhancements take place during the next few months, Member Services expects to have limited system capabilities on select dates, including Oct. 20, Nov. 17, and Dec. 1 and 15. Plans call for Member Services to remain open on these particular dates, so be sure to watch DVCMember.com or call (800) ******** for updates about exact operating hours.

Among the enhanced system's benefits to Members will be automatic e-mail reservation confirmations and the ability for Members' guest(s) to receive confirmations at the Members' request. Members also will be able to have one itinerary and confirmation number that represents all segments of their vacation (multiple rooms, resorts, reservation types, etc.). Most importantly, this system enhancement lays the final foundation for the planned introduction of online booking in 2011.

Note that, effective Oct. 14, the new system will require a one-night room and tax deposit for cash reservations, and payment for the Disney Dining Plan will be required at the time it's added to a reservation. (As a reminder, Members may add the Disney Dining Plan to their reservation as many as 48 hours prior to their check-in date.)

Watch DVCMember.com for updates about system enhancements as new information becomes available.

DVC members will often pay cash through member services for some nights when they don't have enough points. Now we have to pay a deposit where before we didn't.

At least ,DVC is now proactive and telling us up from what will be happening next month. That's a good start in the right direction :)
