Anyone know why our dues went up so much this year? Mine went up about 25%. I would expect a 3-5% increase, but 25% was a real shock.

Holy smokes! 25%??? I would double check your math... :teeth:

Anyway, I don't mind higher fees.... You get what you pay for! :drinking:

I think that most dues averaged less than 10%. I would check your math again. I also don't mind the increase--it was pretty much expected with insurance and transportation costs rising everywhere.

The increase was a bit higher than normal, in some cases, because they underestimated taxes for last year, so the balance due for last year's taxes was due immediately.

I am a new member and I got a credit on my bill. I guess they charged me too much for something during closing, so my bill actually dropped. I paid online and found that easy to do with my Disney Visa and will get 16 reward dollars back.

The dues did go up a little, but not 25%. If it was 25%, I would probably sell it back to them. Had I paid for all my stays at Disney last year instead of use my DVC, I would have paid way, way more in actual $$'s. So I feel like it is worth it

None of the dues for 2006 went up by 25%. You can do a forum search for "dues increase summary" and you will find a recap of the increases and a historical listing of dues.

The actual dues went up roughly 4-8% depending on resort. On top of that, we are charged the difference between the estimated tax and what the actual 2005 real estate tax turned out to be. If you pay monthly, this difference will be added lump sum into the 1/15 withdrawal.

If last year was when you bought, your payments may be going up because you were only paying partial dues for 2005.

If you are looking at the January payment, that amount includes an extra charge for underestimation of taxes. The rest of your payments will be lower.

How do you put the neat stuff into your profile?

Dues are still way too high at DVC. We own a 2BR oceanview top floor penthouse villa at Royal Resorts in Cancun. Our new dues statement for 2006 is 648.00 and they just experienced at huge hurricane. My opinion is that Disney better get a handle on these costs because the value of ownership is quickly going to evaporate with the dues going higher and higher. We have a 220 point contract at OKW and are paying 962.00 this year. That's too high.

Cost of labor, a major portion of our dues, would be significantly less in Mexico. Mexico is really cool, we were lucky enough to enjoy the home of a friend of a friend down on the coast below Cancun. But he pays practically nothing for maintenance on that home - which includes a maid and a gardner that come daily (they probably do two or three homes) - his maid and gardner daily service were half what I paid my U.S. housekeeper for a similar sized home.

His home also got hit by the hurricane, and insurance will take care of most of it, but everything from replacing the windows to shoveling the sand out of the living room was cheaper than it would be here.

I would like to know how the original poster got their 25% figure. According to what was posted, the largest increase was OKW at 9.8%. How could this member have a 25% increase?

How would you figure out the percentage increase? I'm a little confused :confused3 I figured dues would go up, but I didn't think they would go up that much. I bought SSR at $3.82/pt., but if I divide my dues for 2006 by the number of points I own, it will be $4.58/pt. this year. Is that not correct?
Steph :cool1:

The thing that throws it off is there was an underpayment of 2005 property taxes. SSR's dues for 2006 are $3.98 per point. The rest of your increase is probably part of the 2005 dues that were underestimated. You should have a breakout on your statement. If you recently bought, there may also be some 2005 dues that are still due. I don't think the 15% cap includes property taxes, because DVC has no control over that.

I see what they did here. I thought they were two different totals, but I see the combined 2005 with 2006. :goodvibes Thanks for pointing that out!

We also own 220 points at OKW and fixed weeks 51 and 52 in a sleep 10 at Westgate. Our dues for this year are $650 per week as compared with the £965.98 at Disney for our points. I appreciate we do not get the transport but agree that Disney had better get their act together. They told me on the phone when I queried it that they had had to increase because of hurricane problems. Seems other resorts in the area have managed to keep their costs to minimum.
