Hi! Can someone tell me what the interest rates are on DVC if you finance through Disney? Also, I am thinking about purchasing 150 pts. for SSR. About how much in $ would the annual dues be? Can you pay them monthly or do you pay one lump sum for the year?

Thanks!!

2000 Disneyland
2002 (Jan.) CBR
2002 (Sept.) WL
2003 (Nov.) BWI & POR
2005 (Jan.) Hopefully Poly lagoon view!

other places I want to stay in future!!
CSR, BCV, SSR, AKL, CR, Swan or Dolph, OKW, FW, Treehouse Villas (if they ever reopen)

2004 Dues for the DVC resorts are as follows..........

OKW-$3.68
SSR -$3.80
HHI-$3.86
BCV-$4.17
VWL-$4.22
BWV-$4.25
VB - $4.67

Dues can be deducted monthly from a checking or savings acct or be paid in 1 lump sum on a credit card.

For 150 pts at SSR your dues will be a little less than $600 a yr.

I'm having a little sticker shock with the dues, here. At $570 a year, it seems like you could get a night or two (?) of concierge at a duluxe each year for the cost of the dues alone. And that's just the dues! Am I crazy thinking this DVC might be... well a rip off? I see so many of you totally sold on it, so I'm still mulling it over myself.... Convince me! Any tax deductions? Something?

did you think about buying a smaller resale contract of 75 points, to reduce your initial cost of getting involved with DVC, to make sure it is for you.

Sters,

I felt the same way about the dues and was very skeptical. I finally purchased SSR a few months ago. I decided that this was the time to do so because of the $10.00 credit, keeping my first year points, and the 50 years of usage. I checked with my accountant and he says that we can write off part of the dues.

Good luck in your decision.

What is the $10 credit?

The $10 credit is no longer. It is now $5 from what I have read.
Disney is giving a credit to people buying it is $5 off per point purchased.

You can deduct the tax portion of the dues and the interest on the mortgage. After you pay the mortgage off, then the only expense is the yearly dues. Granted you can get 2 nights concierge at a deluxe, but, I can get 14 nights at OKW. Hmmm, two nights or 14 nights, difficult choice. :)

Um, 2 NIGHTS at a deluxe concierge room vs. nearly 2 WEEKS (during value season) at a studio for 150 points? Okay, so it's "only" 12 nights for 150 points at SSR, but still. I guess I am having a difficult time understanding how that's a rip off. Could you please elaborate?

Naah. You gotta convince yourself.

Sit down with a pad of paper (or Excel) and decide how many days you want to spend at WDW each year for the next 50 years. Use the rack rates at the resorts (don't forget to add the tax!) to come up with a cost for those stays. Now figure out how many DVC points you would need to buy to make those same trips.

Approximate the increase in room rates over that period along with the increase in DVC annual dues (about 3-4% annually over the past 10 yrs at OKW).

Then you'll be able to see for yourself how much you might save.

In my own analysis, I hit the break-even point around 11 years. That leaves 39 more years for us (or our children) to enjoy 13-14 nights in a studio for $600 per year.
