Just returned from my first trip to Disneyland, and wanted to let everyone know about the troubles that I had attempting to use DVC discounts in Downtown Disney. I met a college classmate for dinner at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen for dinner. Although I didn't go there just because of the discount, I was glad that it was available. However, the waiter (who appeared to be stoned the whole night) knew nothing about it. He told me that he went to his manager about it who indicated that he knew nothing about it either. I was given a discount, but it wasn't as part of the DVC discount. I then went over to Basin...where, once again, I was told that the employees there knew nothing about the discount. In fact, both organizations made sure to tell me that they weren't part of the Disney organization. It was most annoying. I stopped by the DVC booth later on and talked to the employee who stated that this was a problem that was occuring frequently. He stated that all of the businesses had signed contracts with DVC but did not appear to be honoring them. I also asked about the future of DVC properties at Disneyland, and it sounded as if that was not a possibility. Hopefully, your experience will be better than mine.

I tried to use it on our trip at end of September and it was hit or miss. Ended up using our AP discounts instead. It may take a while for them to get used to the program.

It may be wise to print out the DL discount list to show unaware CM's there. At times, this was even necessary at WDW where DVC has had a presence for 14 years now. In the early yearsm there was some confusion about the discounts- not so much any more. It will take the DL CM's awhile to become familiar with DVC and discounts.

I used the DVC discount at Rancho del Zocola and they knew about it. It pleasantly surprised me-I wasn't expecting that! When you ate at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen, did you have the bananas foster? DS was a CM at DL this past summer and ate at the Jazz Kitchen several times-he loved the bananas foster.

I'm going in a couple of days and hoping to use the discount at some places. I've already printed out the list. I know some of them are pretty specific about the times and I think the Jazz Kitchen even indicates that you have to have a reservation to get the discount. Seemed like most of them were lunch only discounts.

I need to breakout the discount guide again to figure out where we want to eat while we are there. So far we only have 1 ADR....
