DVC discount for cash pay?

I just got off the phone with member services but forgot to ask what the % discount was. Does anyone know what the DVC member discount is if you want to extend a stay and don't have enough points (including banked/borrowed) for the stay? I know there is a discount because the CM at MS mentioned t, but I forgot to ask how much of a discount it was and the phone is constantly busy right now.

It is up to member services when they release member cash discount rooms. They only release them when they anticipate that members will not book these rooms with points, they come from the points pool of rooms. The closer to your date, the more likely they may release them. They are also more likely on Friday or Saturday nights, since those nights are less often booked with points. I got a Friday & Saturday night at OKW in May about 75 days out.

I got a HH 2br for 6 nights in June at the 7 month window. The first 4 nights (S, M, T, W) were points. Thurs and Fri were cash.

It felt like I hit the jackpot twice: availability at 7 mos AND cash inventory. LOL

So based on a 25% discount what would a studio at say OKW run on average?

Depends upon the time of year:

Value: $254
Regular: 284
Peak: 329
Holiday: 369

These are the rack rates for 2004. Apply 25% discount.

If we were to book a room paying cash with a DVC discount, how difficult is it to switch the rate to an AP discounted rate down the road if those discounts become available?

You can't simply switch the reservations. MS can only make the DVC cash reservation and CRO can only make the AP discounted reservation. You'd need to cancel the DVC reservation and rebook thru CRO for the AP rate- then request that they be linked together. They probably won't guarantee that they will be linked, but it can be done.

Unless the AP discount is a good savings over the DVC discount, the hassle may not be worth the extra confusion/effort (and you might still have to move rooms).

Good Luck!

Thanks Doc! If the DVC discount is only 25%, AP rates are historically much better than that (apprx. 40% on deluxe resorts).

Anyone know where 4th of July weekend falls here regular or peak?

poohj80,
I have booked DVC villas with an AP discount through CRO quite a few times. The AP discount is always much better than the 25% discount that MS gives. Usually the AP discount is 40-50% off of rack rates. I have always had the reservation linked in the system by the front desk so therefore we have never had to change rooms. I do have to go down and check out and check back in the morning of the switch from pts to cash but this is painless and takes only minutes especially if you go early in the AM before the front desk gets busy.

The nights of the 2nd, 3rd and the 4th are regular season, with the night of the 5th beginning value season in 2004.

For the Friday & Saturday night I got the 25% member discount for in May, when the AP rates finally came out (2 weeks before my trip), they were only 30% off. I figured it wasn't worth saving about $40 for 2 nights to take a chance on switching rooms (I think the AP rate was $270 and the member discount $287 for a 1 bedroom plus tax). I talked to member services and they said they would guarantee the same room with member discount but would not for an AP discount. So I kept the member discount. We did not have to check out and back in on Sunday, they just made it one continuous reservation when we checked in on Friday.

Thanks DeeP! That's the kind of info I was looking for.
