Hi all,
I'm a new DVC member, I joined in October buying at AKV.

Although I wasn't planning to visit WDW again until after I could start using my points in May, I couldn't resist booking a trip on the buy 4 get 3 offer staying at All Star Sports in February.

I seem to remember that when I joined my guide told me that I could start using the DVC member discounts (in the offer book) straight away even on my trip at that time, but after reading the guide i've noticed it states that you must present your DVC membership card and KTTW card showing "DVC Member" on it. Therefore i'm guessing as i'm staying All Star and my KTTW card won't show this I wont be able to use any of the DVC member discounts on my Feb trip to WDW.

Is this the case, or will just the DVC member card usually be good enough to get the odd tour and restaurant discount? (Although I don't want anyone to feel i'm abusing the system.)

Thanks for your help!!!

You will be able to get the discounts with just your member card. The only "perk" you will not be able to use is pool hopping. I've never shown my key to get discounts, just the member card.

What discounts/perks were you planning on using? Pool hopping is definitely out because you must be staying on points at a DVC resort to use that perk. Buy you should be able to use the valet parking at the DVC resorts if you plan on shopping or dining at those resorts (you'll still need to tip, though). You can use the DVC member card to get the discount on Annual Passes (or Premium Annual Passes).

You also will not get the free internet service. You must be staying at a DVC resort on points or member cash (a cash reservation booked through DVC Member Services) for that.

Thank you for all your help and feedback.

I was mainly thinking about making use of some of the dining and recreation discounts. Which from the sounds of it, from your info, i'll be able to do.

Didn't plan to do any pool hopping this trip (and thought this definitely would not apply) so that wouldn't be a problem.

Can't wait to make my first stay at Animal Kingdom Villas, hopefully later in the year!!!

My understanding is that free internet, PH, free video rental and (possibly) some golf discounts are stay specific. There might be one or two others but I can't think of any more right now. Free Valet, restaurant, admission discounts are all member specific at the present time but that could change.
