I was at the Disney Store today and the CM mentioned that the DVC discount would end on 12/31. I asked for clarification and she said yes the DVC discount would end. I mentioned that I knew my Disney Club membership was ending 12/31 and she said that ALL discounts will end 12/31. I'm just wondering why DVC is telling all of us new members (joined 10/15/03) that the discount is valid if it is ending. If they know the end date, shouldn't they indicate it somewhere?

I'm hoping the CM was not aware that DVC was different from Disney Club.

Many CM don't know DVC from DC. So don't worry, DVC will let us know what is going on. But DVC can and has changed or drop lots of "perks" over the years. Just wait and see, don't get worked up on one CM understanding.

There has been no mention of the DVC discount ending. The DC definitely ends on Dec. 31, 2003. Many TDS CM's are "under"informed about these discounts.

Until we hear something from DVC about discontinuing the discount relationship, just assume it's still valid. If one CM refuses the discount, ask to speak to a supervisor ... and take names! ;)

Enjoy!

The "Clubhouse" E-Mail that came from DVC last week has a paragraph encouraging everyone to "Shop Til You Drop" during the holidays at the Disney Store, using your DVC discount. It does state that only the cardholder gets the discount and we don't get a discount on-line or by catalog. It mentions nothing about the discount coming to an end. Doc's advice is on the money.

I am a DVC member and a CM (manager) at TDS. I have not read or heard anything at the store to indicate that the discount is ending. Disney Club discount does end 12/31/03. Unfortunately many CM's do not know or do not remember the difference in DVC and DC. We have very few guests that use the DVC card at our store.
If you are refused your DVC discount, please ask to speak with a manager. You should get 10% on everything except gift certificates, disney dollars and of course those park passes! There are some occasions when DVC or DC can not be combined with a special offer or sale that is gong on in the store. This does not happen very often.

Thanks! I was hoping that the CM was not aware of the program. It sounds like my suspicions are right.

I was at the Disney Store last night and no mention of this either. They didn't give me the full 10%, only gave me 8%... Kinda weird, huh?

I got a princess suitcase for my neice for christmas... Regular price $34.99, advertised in store as 35% off and they had a special additional 20% off this weekend on the whole store, plus the 8% DVC discount made it around $17 with tax. I did not realize that when they have additional discounts they take them off the *discounted* price and not the original price. So... what should have been a 65% total discount came out to be around a 53% one instead.

Oh well, still cheaper than normal and still a super-cute present!

During the current 20% off sale, the 8% DVC discount is indeed the correct one. They take 20% off the item (which leaves 80% of the value) and then take 10% of the remaining amount which works out to 8% of the original cost of the item. The CM's have a chart and they just take 28% off the item total to give us both the 20% and 10% discounts at the same time. It seems both fair and is definitely correct mathematically. FWIW, the #'s actually work out the same way if you take the discounts in reverse order since 20% of 90% is 18%--add that to 10% and you get a total 28% discount once again.

So, our discount applies towards DVDs and CDs as well? I was told the discounts did not apply at one of my local Disney Stores.

Hey, thanks for that explanation on the discount! I too was in a Disney store this wkend. (THey had the trinket items for 33% off, plus 20% off of that... bought some stuff for the kids for our next trip!) I couldn't figure out why, when I showed them my DVC card, the clerk helping my CM (a newbie, I guess) pointed to a barcode to scan that had "28" written beside it. Now I know!

I think it stinks that the sweaters I just ordered on-line are now on sale. Phooey. At least I also didin't order the matching mom/daughter jogging suits. My dd loves those, and now they're on sale too. But I won't make the mistake I've already made -- I waited too late for one item (a "Marie" sweatshirt my dd loves) and now it's out of stock. WHo knew that cat would be so popular.... :scratchin

ArnyVee,

You should get your DVC discount on CD's and movies. In fact, this past weekend you would have received 10% off both DVD's and VHS's even though they were not included in the 20% special.
There are exceptions to this. Aren't there always! (lol). Sometimes TDS is not permitted to combine discounts.

madaboutMickey, which store do you work at? We live in Cincinnati and visit the Tri-County store quite often, at least more than my DH would like!!
