DVC Direct Perks increase?

How did I miss this? According to my guide, DVC quietly raised the amount of points needed to qualify for those Blue card perks from 125 to 150 in June. Is this true?

What perks? There are no annual passes with no guarantee of what the AP program will look like if/when it comes back, are there any other perks of value that aren’t currently suspended?

You still get the food and merchandise discounts, and access to Epcot Lounge.

Yes, I know there are other ways to get some of the discounts but those do have value.

Those of us with APs during 2020 are still getting the DVC pricing on renewals and those who were eligible for the recovery offer, did get that pricing for new ones.

So, I think that alone bodes well for APs coming back. However, it is the biggest perk of all and those buying now who are not current AP holders do have to hope it returns,

To me, the biggest benefit…which isn’t tied to membership magic…is the use of points at RIV and future resorts. If that is not important to someone, then having resale points works.

I am probably being overly optimistic, but I am thinking with them continuing to raise the minimum points they will eventually start adding some more extra benefits to the DVC membership. It just make sense to raise the minimums before you started adding back benefits.

I also think the rise is to allow them to price the new VGF points going on sale lower for new buyers. Since they have to buy an extra 25 points than they did in May, they can come out with a starting point a little lower and closer to RIV and still end up at the same point for sales $$$.

But, I do hope, like you, that we do start seeing some extra benefits!

Smart thought on VGF2 pricing! I hope you’re right.

I'm not sure I agree that this is a forward looking master plan to save us money  but hey, maybe the dam is beginning to burst on all that pent up Schultz/Chapek generosity!

If Disney goes with that strategy, it won’t be to do buyers any favors, it’ll be to maximize sales by requiring new buyers to buy more points, and spend more money, creating the illusion of a better deal with a slightly lower per point cost. Who knows, by Jan. the minimum might even be up to 175. But it could help benefit DVC members looking to add on.

Possibly, but I doubt it unless that's also the minimum new buyer buy-in. I suppose that's a possibility but 150 seems like what the goal has been for a while now. And requiring more than 150 doesn't make much sense when the next 2 properties are going to be all and majority studios, respectively. (assuming the VGF expansion and Disneyland tower are the next 2 coming.)

Good point, but its hard to believe that the minimum new buyer buy-in will plateau at 150 points forever, especially if the point charts at DLT are on the high side. I guess only time will tell.

I guess what they might be doing with new resorts is increasing the points chart, so in effect this becomes the minimum.

A week 52 at RVA in a standard studio is 196 points. So why not have the minimum increased? As old resorts go, get refurbished, new point charts (higher) out, then Disney can look to increase the minimum direct holding.

Wasn't it 150 awhile ago? I am not a DVC member any more 😢, but when we bought in 2008 (direct from Disney), we bought 150 and thought we ended up with that amount because it was the minimum. Could be misremembering though. I hope it won't go to 175. We're looking to buy again and I already have sticker shock. BWV was $95 a point when we purchased.

Probably was 150 then. It was 100 when we bought VGF in 2014. I think when OKW was first offered it was over 200 points.

It was 160 when I bought in 2009.
