I know this is a strange post but what the heck...

We usually do DCL with my sister and her familiy using DVC points every other year by borrowing points from the next year. My sister would like to book our next cruise in February 2004- that's when the points become available - for an August 2004 sailing.

My husband and I are trying to have another child and can't predict when (if at all) I will be pregnant. I am 41 years old and do not want to put this off any longer so waiting until after the cruise is not an option. I believe that DCL has a restriction that I cannot be more than 20 weeks pregnant at the time of sailing but I just don't know if I'll be pregnant or how far along in August.

Has anyone had experience cancelling a cruise using DVC points? Were there any restrictions on the use of the cancelled points?

Not that it answers your question, but the DCL restriction is 24 weeks. We just sailed with my DW 18 weeks pregnant. When I called to ask about it, they required a medical form to be filled out by her doctor indicating how far along she was. Nobody ever asked for the form (though the doctor may have faxed it). There is also a question on the cruise documents asking if anybody in your party is pregnant, and to indicate the number of weeks. The cruise contract clearly states that you will be refused boarding if you are over 24 weeks pregnant.

I'm sure somebody else can address the cancellation issue if that happens (at least it will be for a good reason:D )

First off, good luck with trying to concieve, I know how hard it can be as a suffer of infertility myself. Actually the restriction is that you can not have entered your 24th week of pregnancy before embarking on the ship, so that buys you another month. Secondly, if you book a DCL cruise on DVC points AND THEN cancel, the points are returned into the DVC account as reservation points. That means, that they can not be used at any of the DVC resorts, but can be used at any other WDW Resorts, Concierge Collection and Adventurer Collection. I'm not sure if they could still be used for an exchange with Interval International at that point, but I don't think so. These points can not be banked, so they must be used up by the end of the use year. Also, I don't know why you' need to wait until Feb 2004 to book a cruise for August 2004. Does your sister have a Feb use year? You don't have to wait until the points are physicaly there to book, the points just have to be available at the time you want to use them. That means, your sister can call today to book the cruise, since the only restriction is that you have wait until 11 months before to book a cruise. I have a Feb use year, and I've already booked a vacation for July 2004, using borrowed points from 2005, so there is no reason you have to wait, unless it's what you want to do.
