I am a new DVC member and I have seen several posts regarding not using points for a cruise due to the high point cost. I have done my own math and I agree with this idea. I have two questions:
Do we get a discount on cash DCL trips with DVC?
If you pay cash it seems that booking far in advance is one way to save money.
Do you use MS or a travel agent?
We have never been on a cruise and would travel with two kids 4 & 12 at the time of the cruise (I am thinking 2006). I have heard that DCL is much more expensive than other lines. Because we have never taken a cruise part of me says do the 4 night, but I would like to see the various ports so I am tempted to take the 7 night. Any advice? Thanks :confused3

There is no cash discount for DVC members on DCL. You could look at paying for only one person with points and the rest in cash as an option.

You do save money with DCL by booking cash cruises far in advance. We are going on our fourth Disney cruise in April. Our four kids love it, just as my DW and I do. It may be more expensive than other crusie lines but so is staying inside Disney World as opposed to staying off property. If you love Disney as much as we do, there is no comparision IMHO.

You will love DCL. Have fun planning.

I've never used this site before to book travel, though I have called them. They seem very competent on DCL info, and very competitive on DCL pricing. I will try to use them when we plan our first Disney Cruise.

When we do our first cruise (never cruised ever before) we will more than likely do the 4 night.

GL and have fun planning!

I had only cruised once and my husband had never cruised before. We chose DCL because we felt we would be more comfortable cruising with the Mouse, even though it was more expensive. We also paid cash, much cheaper. As for your 4 night vs 7 night question: If I had to do it over again, I would have cruised 4 nights instead of the 7. Everyone on the boards say to go for 7 because 3 or 4 is not enough, but in our case, I was so ready to get off the ship after 7 days (we had rough sailing). I would rather go on a shorter cruise wishing I could stay longer than to go on a longer cruise wishing I could leave!

Now that we know what to expect, we are still not sure if we want to do a 7 day cruise again. 4 day for sure. :wave2:

You can only use DVC Member Services to book a DCL cruise if you are booking on points, or points combined with cash.

Visit our DIS Cruise Board for all the information you need on the Disney Cruises! Good luck!
