from an inside stateroom to a deluxe outside when cruising entirely on points. We did arrive at the check in terminal pretty early- we were one of the first to check in. I don't know if that made a difference or not. Good luck!
We cruised for the first time in July 2003. We were not DVC members at the time (booked through AAA) and before the crusie began we received a message at the hotel from our travel agent that our cabin had been upgraded. We went from a catagory 9 to a 6 I think. Our new cabin had a veranda! I only wish this was more than a 3 night cruise. We were spoiled with the veranda. I have no idea why we received an upgrade. We were never told but then again I didn't ask either. I was a nice perk to a wonderful trip. We bought into DVC the day we stepped off the ship.
We were just on a very full cruise over President's week and they told us after a DVC member gathering that upgrades do occur from time to time, normally because the cheaper rooms book very fast. As a result, they sometimes upgrade people who have reserved those rooms to open them up for more paying customers. I guess they figure it is better to do that than have an empty room.
