DVC Cruise

If you bought after the resale terms changed, I'm fairly sure that you cannot book it even with cash.

I agree with everything said above, however last year there was a "special offer" from DCL emailed to us as DVC members for discounts on cash cruises. When I called MS to ask if I was eligible (resale purchase in 2012), they discussed it and said I was.

Seems that there are some grey areas, depending on DCL offers

Ok question..

If I buy direct, and my sister buys resale..
Can I book her a DCL using the cash discount?
If I'm not going on the cruise?

I think the OP was talking about the actual member cruise though.

Yep. I think the OP is asking that also, my point is that it seems like cruises are controlled by DCL not DVC. As soon as I think I understand the game, someone at Disney changes the rules.

If the boat is empty-ish they seem to have the ability to offer a "special deal" to fill it. There seem to be very few absolutes with Disney if there is money to be made.

Those DVC member cruises are usually never empty. They book up quickly. If there is an empty one I'm sure they'd offer discounts as you stated. I could see that.

So I called MS today and I was told that I could not book the DVC member cruise if I bought resale.

But... if we bought an add on contract in addition to our resal contrace for 25 points we would be "official".

Looks like that will be our plan.

We will pay cash for the cruise but will use our official status to allow us to get on board.

Thanks for weighing in on this topic folks.

And if you decided to use your points for the DVC member cruise you could only use the direct purchase points. But like MS said your direct purchase add on would qualify you for a cash purchase on the DVC member cruise.

Ok, so to clarify... we purchased resale in 2009... we would not be eligible to purchase our cruise using points (would also of course need to pay cash for part of the cruise... no way would we have enough points for the 3 of us!)?

If you purchased resale prior to 3/21/2011, you are grandfathered in and can use those points to book a cruise.

If you purchased resale in 2009 you are a DVC member who can use either your points or cash to go on a Member Cruise.

If you are a DVC member who only has points bought at resale 3/21/2011 or later, you cannot go on the Member Cruise.

Thanks for the clarification! We are looking at Alaska (my dream cruise... and as it is my disabled youngest's 18th birthday next year and HIS dream come true to go to Alaska) it would be a fantabulous trip to take!

Now.. what would REALLY be awesome.. not likely to happen of course.. since he literally eats NOTHING and never will, would be if they would charge us youth rate instead of adult rate for him! I can dream, right? :)

He would need to be counted as adult for lifeboat. I hope you get to live your dream. The scenery is beautiful!
