DVC Contemporary Resort Speculation

The current rumor is that the N. Wing will be demolished and a 4 or 5 story DVC put in its place. There is also suppose be a walkway connecting it to the tower.

Only time will tell.

Yes, I have seen that rumor.....and love it! :cool1:

I don't think there are suites at ASM. I think they're thinking of Coronado Springs.

I can't find the source at the moment, but within the last month someone reported that one of the buildings at ASMu was going to be converted to suites. If memory serves, the idea was to turn two connecting rooms into a suite, keeping the pricing structure similar to two standard rooms, but offering slightly better accommodations. My guess is they would put a king bed in one room and twin beds (or even a twin and set of bunk beds) in the other. They could block off one front entrance of one room to make space for a sofa. Maybe even consider a kitchenette--especially if they eliminate one bathroom.

I don't see this on any of the rehab schedules, and can't even locate the source. So take it with a grain of salt. It really sounds like a good idea to me.

The same (mystery) source reported that if it was well-received, all of ASMu would be converted to suites. Makes sense since they have sooooo many Value rooms right now.

Anyone know what is happening with the legendary years at the PC?

For all I do not see this happening (then again you never know), a 'DVC Lite' may not be a bad idea. Charge the same amount per point, but require less points for a room and lower the minimum number of points one can buy (150 if you want DVC regular and 75 for DVC lite).

The 'DVC Lite' would be like the value resorts, but without the tackiness. Sort of a cross between a value and a moderate.

This may actually be a good way to expand the market.

Maybe then we can have 'DVC Deluxe'. Similar to a regular DVC, but even more upscale, and would include concierge lounges and services.

Yes, perhaps we could then have a room for ourselves and a DVC lite room for MIL........ :goodvibes :earseek: :crazy2: :scared1:

I am pretty sure if this is done the Coronado or POP or ASmu it will not be a DVC lite it will be a standard DVC format like the others with some 1 and 2 bedrooms not many I would imagine and it will priced accordingly and the 150 point minimum will still be in effect. If they do offer either of those our family will be some of the first in line to add on there.

The problem with a "DVC lite" where point values are significantly different or a lower buy in will be with trades to other than home resorts.

Just back from the member's cruise (fantastic time!). I sat in on Mike Lingenfelt's talk (he's Director of Disney Imagineering). He let it slip that one of the Contemporary's wings will become a DVC. I didn't have the opportunity to get any details as far as timeline or types of rooms.

You mean he said it in front of a room full of DVC members?! That sounds like a public announcement rather than a "slip"! Except that he has no business making such an announcement.

Let's hope someone "lets it slip" to Member Services and the construction workers as well.

Someone questioned him on the Contemporary's "plug 'n play" rooms, for which it was originally designed (each room was built off-site, and was removable, in order to update/refresh later in its life.) Mike talked about how that original idea didn't pan out as hoped, since the rooms fused together due to corrosion. Plumbing and electrical hookups were difficult as well.
During this explanation about the current refreshing that is underway, he "slipped" out that one wing will become a DVC wing.
I also sat in on Jim Lewis' talk, who could not say anything about any DVC expansion plans. So, I'm sure the DVC legal folks would have cringed if they heard Mike's statement.

Why would the legal dept. cringe? If the rumor is true, it certainly doesn't seem to be a closely guarded subject. :rotfl2:

Maybe the Imagineer let it slip on purpose? ;)

The guys seems like Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies. "Oohhh, I shouldn't a said that!"

I am one of those few who held the CR as a favorite resort. However, I made this determination based on convenience and location. This was also deemed my favorite while staying in a tower room. I don't think it would have the same feel outside of the tower. It was cool to walk out of your room, look down, and see the hustle and bustle of the shops area and the zoom of the monorail. If this is detached, I don't think it would have the same draw. Granted, you can WALK "home" from the Magic Kingdom rather easily when those darned transportation lines (bus, monorail, boat) lines are so long!

And we're the opposite. We've always avoided staying at the CR because it is so bustling. But my husband and I have always admired the rooms on the North wing that face Bay Lake whenever we've taken pontoon boats out. Close to the magic but seemingly miles away. It is also why we love the Polynesian and prefer BCV to BWV. Different strokes. :flower:

Our family loves going to the CR for dinner/breakfast at chef Mickeys but really have no desire to stay there mind you ig this does come to fruition it may be a hit on the rental market and that is where I would be looking at an add on for the monetary gain it could pose.

I guess you're right. That's exactly why I prefer BWV to BCV! They are all great in their own way!

I noticed that in your signature...or at least that you owned at BWV. :sunny: Just as in the resorts, it is great that there is a variety of atmosphers in DVC.
