I am short 14 points for our upcoming trip. Next year's points are already spoken for. What is the cash discount?

I did try searching buy nothing came up but a closed thread.

I don't know about the cash discount, but I do know they will let you do a 1 time use purchase of up to 24 pts for $15/pt. Great option when you are a little short. That would probably be cheaper than paying for a whole night in cash.

You can purchase those one time points to use at 7 months out. They are not good at 7+ months out.

If the discount is available and it is not always available it would be 25% off rack rate.

Thank you Deb and Bill!

I thought that was the discount amount, and I had no idea where to look. I know about the one time use points, but I wanted to see what was the most economical.

Sticker shock!!!!

Disney's Old Key West ResortTotal: $354 †-for a studio. I think the one time use points are better since I can't find points to rent. I am so glad we don't pay rack rate!

The "cash discount" is off of rack rate.

Unless it's over 50% it's too rich for my blood LOL! Disney has a very high "rack rate" for those units! (Disney thinks their hotels are worth more then the hotel in Times Square NY for reasons only Disney knows... and I don't agree!)

I think part of Disney's strategy is to have the rack rates high and then they offer 40% off and you think you got a great deal! Meanwhile, that only brings it down to what it should be. Also "free dining" requires rack rate. So you are paying an inflated room rate to get "free dining".

No, based on the quality and star ratings provided by independent agencies...

Disney pricing is still not "what it should be" The rooms are very overpriced. If you take 40% of the 40% then you are getting closer. Disney Deluxes are basically a 3 star hotel. Going rate for those in a place like Orlando.... well under $200!

Except that Disney is not Orlando, nor do the offsite 3 star hotels offer the onsite amenities. In the hotel business, location is everything, then add in the onsite perks, like airport transportation, charging, etc. While some offsite hotels off airport shuttles, not all of them do...and in the end while Disney is indeed overpriced, there is also a price associated with providing those onsite services that add both value and cost to the onsite accommodations. If you find those added amenities of little or no value, then staying offsite would be far more economical for you. However, I would say it is pretty obvious that DVCers do indeed find personal value in those amenities, or they would have purchased an offsite timeshare.
