DVC+cash booking - likelihood of moving?

There’s 1 day smack in the middle of our DVC stay that is unavailable on points. Rather than changing our plans, I’m thinking of waitlisting that one night and booking a cash room. Assuming the waitlist doesn’t come through, as long as I book the exact same room type, view, etc., what are the odds I’ll have to switch rooms for the cash night? I know there’s no guarantee, just wondering what people’s experiences have been.

You can call and as them to put travel dates together by linking the different reservations, so that you don't have to move.

ETA: Sorry, I misread you question. I don't know if this is possible if having cash stay in the middle, I know it is when doing all DVC stay with different bookings. I would venture to say you probably will need to move though, given that most of the time, cash reservations and DVC inventory is different.

Great3

All you can do is ask that a note be put on all three reservations indicating 'continuing reservation' & containing all three reservations numbers. Stop at the front desk at arrival and repeat the request. You may have to check out and back in again between reservations, but probably won't have to actually move. Good luck.

Unless something has changed with cask bookings, It will depend on the type room you booked with DVC. I believe a cash booking cannot book Boardwalk or Standard views. Those rooms are for DVC members to book. I could be wrong though.

All 3 views are now bookable on cash.

Thanks. We’d be booking the Poly or possibly BLT, if that makes a difference.

One thing you can do is call MS to see if they have a cash room available for you to book for the room you want. This way, it will be connected and you will not have to change rooms. When booking via Disney, sometimes it can make a difference but as noted, all you can do is request it, have all the reservations noted, and ask when you get there.

But, depending on the date, one night waitlists definitely have a great chance of coming through. And, make sure you also stalk the website to try and get it. I have made changes to my March 8th night in the last 24 hours from a Poly Studio, to a 1 bedroom SV at SSR, to a 1 bedroom PV at SSR, to just now snagging the 1 bedroom at BLT...now stalking in hopes of getting a 1 bedroom at VGF instead as that is top choice! Things have changed that much!!!

Good luck!!

I cannot speak to current situations but in the past I have booked cash reservations in the middle of a stay and never had to move from the room. In the past the Fri/Sat points cost was about the same as the Sun - Fri points cost. So what did we do - 5 days on points, 2 on cash, and 5 more on points. Shoot, at that time DVC even gave you 25% off on the cash bookings. I will say that 12 nights straight in an OKW 1 bedroom was WONDERFUL!

curious what you found out? I have similar but at Aulani week before Christmas

We were able to stay in the same room with no problems! We asked at check in and were told to come to the front desk the following day to check, and we were all set. Good luck!

They definitely prefer *not* to move someone if they can since it means less room cleaning.

Thanks -- I have a cash stay coming up at AKL (last minute so couldn't find DVC). Now just found 1 night available on points so it seems like a good plan to book that and modify my cash stay I think. We really don't want to move rooms though!

We used to do this all the time at HHI. We would stay over the weekend into the following week, but for the weekend, we'd always pay cash in order to stretch our points. Also, at that time of year, at least, weekends were very high point "cost". Never had to move-our total stay was seamless.

Use chat to notify DVC of the cash reservation confirmation number and ask them to note it as a "continuing reservation." Notify Disney Reservation Center (I don't know if you can chat or need to call) of the DVC confirmation number and ask them to note it as a "continuing reservation." Then ask at the front desk when you check in for the first one. You probably won't need to move, as long as both are exactly the same room size, view, etc. Good luck!

It's unlikely you'll have to move (as said, just have the reservations marked as "continuing stay"). We always have a mix of DVC & cash, or all DVC but with different Memberships, same resort/room - we've not once needed to move in many, many stays.
However, they recently changed it so that your 60-day Dining reservation window will start from the first day of each reservation. That makes it rough if you want certain, high demand restaurants as you lose the 60+ dining window for on-site (where you can book dining for up to 10 days of a reservation at 60 days).
