This will be our first visit as DVC members and we leave on the 9th April for our home resort of WLV and a few days at BLT :)
I just had a couple of questions. I am purchasing the TIW card and presume I cannot use both cards at the same time. So to ensure my gratuity is paid I feel it is best to use the TIW card as it automatically pays 18% gratuity. I do also leave a few dollars for excellent service. We are a party of three. From the UK I never know how much to tip but feel this is an average from what I have read. Anyway,I wondered if there were any counter service places(at hotels or parks) that accept the dvc discount or TIW card. I presume that the tip is not taken from these places.
I have $1700 for food for 14 days but we have got 10 TS booked .we rarely drink but will have the odd cocktail/glass of wine.
I hope this is enough?
I also wondered if any of the DTD quick service like earl of sandwich or WGP express take the TIW or dvc card?
We are planning to eat breakfast some days in the room and will take some water with us to the parks so the $1700 is purely for QS ,drinks and TS.

You are correct, there is no tip automatically added for the counter service places that accept the TIW card. The link given is a most excellent one, and I'm so glad it was given first! :)

To break it down, though, the CS places are:

Food courts at the value resorts, including Art of Animation (which had some tasty food).
Sassagoula Floatworks at POFQ.
Artist's Palette (?) at SSR
CS places at Animal Kingdom Park (Flame Tree Barbecue, Pizzafari, and Restaurantosaurus)

No you cannot combine the discounts.

Depending on your actual plans, you might want to review the dining discounts available by just using the DVC member card, by the way. I believe they recently expanded the discounts. You can download the "portable perks" from the dvcmember website, and check out that list. It's possible that your dining plans might all be compatible with the DVC discounts, and that way you don't have to buy the TIW card. For me it didn't work that way, there were only two meals that would have gotten the DVC discount, but maybe it will be different for you.

DVC will work at CS in the parks where TIW will not. I would suggest looking at the DVC website as above person stated.
We are just 2 adults and we eat breakfast in the room, we figure $100 a day for food. It averages out to be about that over the whole trip. But we eat CS for lunch most days and TS for dinner.

http://allears.net/pl/disc_dining.pdf will give you a comparison. There are few choices that give you a discount for DVC or the AP but not for TIW but there are a few.

The 18% tip added on is sufficient for good to very good service, this is the normal tip in this situation.
