Would like to stay in a DVC Resort but will be driving to Universal for 2 days. Which resort do you recommend and why for doing things off the Disney Property?

We went to Universal in Jan. 09 when we stayed at OKW. I don't know how far the DVC resorts are to and from Universal. We used a car service for the two universal days, however we drove to WDW this past summer and we found it easy to get around. In July we stayed at SSR. OKW and SSR are both close to DTD and are both close to MAIN highways/interstates... to get to other parks outside WDW. Maybe others will post about their experiences at other DVC resorts. We enjoy all the DVC resorts and we have NO issues staying at SSR our home resort or OKW. We love the DTD area. GOOD LUCK.

We will always stay on-site at Universal for FOTL privileges. If you can swing it, get a room at a Universal hotel room for at least one night. That will give you 2 days of FOTL access (check in and check out day). If you don't know, FOTL access is basically like Fastpass. Only with FOTL, you just show your room key and you are able to enter the express line as much as you want.:thumbsup2

Oh that is a great idea too. :thumbsup2 We went in Jan. We walked onto everything..of course that was also before HP opened.

Thanks, Guess Saratoga is the best bet. Can't swing Universal this time. Mostly for logistics. We are doing a Disney Cruise, so that is obviously locked in and our pre-cruise park time has been cut in to due to dds college scheds. Also, we are travelling on different days now, so I think using points, staying on disney and maybe even using magical express this time, would work easier.

We stayed at OKW Thanksgiving week last year, and ONLY did Universal (got a $99 rate on unlimited passes for a week), so it was great!! We always rent a car, so did have to pay for parking. I thought about staying at Universal for the FOTL access, but couldn't swing the cost. We had a wonderful trip. Didn't go to the parks after the Wednesday before Thanksgiving tho, so we avoided major crowds.
Have a great trip

Saratoga Springs is the closest to the roads that will get you over to Universal with OKW being a very close second- My husband likes to stay at these when he has school because if you turn right out of the resorts you can connect right into 5something or other that takes you that way quickly.

We always rent a vehicle to venture into town as well as spend a couple of days off-Disney; agree SSR is most convenient with OKW a very close second.
